Love how festive and pretty this looks 💕#Repost @joannahowrites with @get_repost ・・・ I was reminded this week of the importance of representation, and culturally responsive pedagogy and practices. The staff Sunshine Committee at my school reached out to me and the Principal to say they wanted to do something for Lunar New Year and among other things, would it be ok to invite the staff to wear red? ⠀⠀ It is the first time in my entire career that anyone has made an effort to celebrate and teach about the Lunar New Year in a professional setting. I was surprised at how moved and emotional I felt while reading this short email. I am not the only Asian person in the workplace, so this wasn’t about me, but I felt SEEN. I felt like my history and culture mattered. This is why diverse books matter. Why culturally responsive teaching and an inclusive curriculum matter. ⠀⠀ The Lunar New Year starts this Friday night and I still need to clean my house, full some red envelopes, cut my kids’ hair and prepare my belly for a whole lot of eating! This little board book with adorable illustrations is a cute introduction to the holiday, which is the biggest holiday of the year in many Asian countries. I can’t wait. ⠀⠀ 新年快樂! ⠀⠀ Author: Hannah Eliot | Illustrator: @AlinaChau | Publisher: Little Simon . . . . . . ⠀⠀ #joannahobradshawrecs #jhbbooklove #kidsbookstagram #booksforkids #kidlitpicks #diversebooks #weneeddiversebooks #picturebooks #iteachtoo #readaloud #booksforkids #teachersofinstagram #librariansofinstagram #instateachers #beautifulbooks #chinesenewyear #growingreaders #readersareleaders #lunarnewyear #kidsbookswelove #childrensliterature #picturebooks #kidsbookswelove #childrensbookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/B7ui219Jdr0/?igshid=12idou7lkid9f
