Harry starts putting more effort in his studies and training. Hermione is pleased, but it triggers some insecurities that Harry no longer needs her. When Harry catches on that something is bothering her, she admits she's not sure what to be for him. Harry acknowledges that he would have died many times over if not for her brains, but more than that, she's the one person who has stood by him through everything. All this time he kept her close, it wasn't for her brain - it was for her heart.

Harry has a genius level intellect, much like Hermione. The only issues is that it's hidden due to the Horcrux (for whatever reason). After the war, Harry's a lot more intelligent and is quickly catching up to where he should have been. When Hermione sees it, she realizes how sexy smart Harry can be.

Constant Vigilance! Instead of Hagrid finding Harry after the immolation of Voldemort in ‘81, it was Alistair “Mad-eye” Moody. He’s confronted by a distraught Sirius and rather than blindly following Dumbledore’s orders to bring the boy to him, Moody and Sirius head to a safe house to regroup and plan. Sirius later goes after Pettigrew but instead of the canon events, Moody defends the young man’s actions. The two eventually team up with Moony and the three decide to raise Harry in secrecy at Potter Manor with Moody as the Secret Keeper. Fast forward ten years and a stronger, more wily Harry Potter reenters the magical world. He meets Hermione on the train and the two discover a shared passion for learning and a surprise passion for crime novels. How does this affect things during the events of first year and beyond?

Harry decides enough is enough and decides to let his brain and his muggle side out a little more. By sending the Death Eaters muggle made post-bombs. No malicious magic to be detected. With the right compounds, the Death Eater just vanishes in a fiery ball. Very low chance of collateral damage (outside their families) as no respecting pureblood would open official mail in public. Soon the Death Eaters are scrambling to figure out who is killing them inside their warded homes and how, and the Ministry and Order of the Bloody Chicken are struggling to fight the loss of so many upstanding pureblood families.

5th year. Rather than fomenting outright rebellion against Umbridge by starting the DA and running afoul of the ED regarding regular meetings of three or more, Harry and Hermione decide to go a different route. They start by taking one student each for a week. Harry teaches the practical while Hermione teaches the theory. They both teach the students to be proficient enough to demonstrate to the others.

Story opens during the first year train ride. Hermione is helping Neville Longbottom find Trevor when they come upon Harry showing off a few of his Metamorph talents to a redheaded idiot. She exclaims that she has that talent too and changes her hair and skin color to prove it. Since they have something to bond over, the two become close friends. They then discover a mutual love of reading and learning. The redhead is disgusted by this and tries his hardest to break them up before getting thrown out of the compartment. The next seven years are markedly different from canon as the two are inseparable. Because they're smarter and less reactionary, the events of each year (stone, snake, convict, etc) are handled differently. The third member of their team is Neville who has his own quiet strengths.
