coming out of his station and he’s doing just- the lights are bright. why is the sun betraying him? is this his punishment for being too tall, the shade forsakes him?

has not seen the sky since emmet vanished. is waiting to see his brother disembark at their familiar station before he even considers it.
“please keep your hands, arms, feet, and legs inside the train at all times.”
“otherwise your resolution 10 pounds will be a limb-.”
“you want authentic lasagna like they make it across the sea? there is a smoliv garden down the block.”

the question prompts a fresh wave of concern and he pulls out of the embrace, hands still gently holding his brother by the shoulders as he inspects his other half even in the otherwise pitch dark. he’s accustomed to it. emmet is tired. emmet is so very tired that ingo can feel it in his own body - or perhaps that’s his own exhaustion trying to imprint itself on his dear brother. it is too hard to tell in this moment. but there is confused recognition that ingo can see and that sends his thoughts down their tracks.
an answer, then. be a useful brother for the first time in years, make up for the mistake of failing emmet those years ago.
“your final destination. nimbasa city station. your round trip was longer than expected, but we are happy to see you finally arrive.”
he can’t tell if he’s too loud or too quiet any longer. elesa doesn’t comment on her visits down here, and emmet was always how he gauged himself, even if his brother didn’t know it. ingo doesn’t know if he can still do that, with the time and distance that was forced between them.

“derail that train of thought. i do not wish to be normal.”
ah an announcement. it must be important
“gear station mamma mia night is this friday.”
“GOOD MORNING PASSENGERS.” He’s standing at his full cryptid height, looking confident and pristine. His blood is caffeine and battles, he has his brother, his train, his Elesa-friend-sister. Everything is right in the world. “THE SINGLE BATTLE LINE WILL BE DEPARTING IN FIVE MINUTES. PLEASE STAY BEHIND THE YELLOW SAFETY LINE UNTIL THE TRAIN DOORS OPEN.”
