if he hadn’t been so preoccupied with finishing his job, he might have been a little proud of how much he had accomplished. he liked knowing all the sources of magic in the city. it gave him a piece of mind to know who had power, and to have an idea of how they might use it. he had checked every person and place on his list for the day, except one. but he didn’t expect a meager magic shop to hold much power, nothing there he could seriously consider a threat.
he entered the shop and started taking immediate stock in his mind. he was surprised to find materials from the world he knew, among others. he had to give it to the owner, they knew what to sell to appeal to mages.
“excuse me, will the owner of the establishment please-“
the breath was nearly taken from his lungs. if he were a weaker man, an ages old endearment might have fallen from his lips. but he wasn’t sure they still were what they once were…and he wasn’t sure she deserved that anyways. his choice was made within seconds, a plan, a lie, an execution, all the tactics that were embedded in his very nature. nevermind how beautiful she looked in a place so perfect for her. “pardon the interruption.” he quickly recovered. “i come on behalf of the city. my name is solas, magic advisor to the madam mayor. i am making note of magic that appears in this city in case it can be of use in returning people to their homes, or at least returning their memories, as well as checking in on the users of such magic. has your shop been flourishing in this city?” he asked, desperate to know if she were okay, but also wondering how many people had access to the supplies he knew were going to aid the lives of people, especially with the inquisitor as their procurer.
