I just finished The Boy In The Book, and after 10 chapters and countless decisions I came to an end that surprised me. As I child I never read the Choose Your Own Adventure books (guess it wasn’t my generation!) and the concept kind of freaks me out, to be perfectly honest. The fact you can flip through a book and the narrative still makes sense, the way one could cheat death by going back and taking a different path, is just really creepy in a way. And I never would have thought this interactive experience would make me feel like I missed out on these books, but it did. The end of this part film, part game, part memoir was unexpectedly beautiful and emotional and I would really recommend it to anyone who feels like diving back into their childhood fantasies.
