Request: Anon- Can you write an imagine for one day at a time where elena has a crush on the reader who lives in their building and is a year or so older, so elena has a hard time even talking to her but she becomes close with the rest of the family who try to set them up? thanks so much!

Since you and your fathers had moved into a new apartment, you had become close friends with one of the other tenants’ daughters who was a year younger than you. You had both gotten along quickly, going to the same school, so she showed you around and also got you a place in her Straight Gay Alliance where you both found out that the other was a lesbian, giving you something else to have in common.

As both of your fathers worked, you had spent a lot of time at Elena’s apartment, getting to know her and her family. You didn’t have much in common with her brother Alex, but you got along well enough, and you had gotten along with her mother and grandmother who both seemed to like your friendship with Elena. Their acceptance in your friendship was only supported when Penelope invited you over for dinner, even though you could tell Elena wasn’t a fan of the idea, later finding out it was due to the fact that she didn’t want her family to embarrass her. Of course, you agreed to the meal, but you didn’t expect your landlord to be there too.

You happily sat with the four Alvarez’s and Schneider for the meal but before you were able to take one bite, her grandmother begun to talk to you.

“So, Elena said that you are gay,” she started. “Elena is always annoying with the different marches and parades and meetings she goes to. I didn’t know that being gay could be a passion, but it is for her.”

“Abuelita!” Elena exclaimed. “Y/N doesn’t want to know about any of that. She is part of the GSA though.”

“Elena was also accepted to a writing program,” Penelope added. “No matter what she sets her mind to, she is able to do it.”

“Mamá!” Elena said through gritted teeth.

“And our Elena-“ Schneider started but her was cut off by the screeching of Elena’s chair being pushed away from the table.

She let out a loud and annoyed groan before stomping off to her bedroom. The rest of you were left in silence before you rose to your feet too.

“I’ll try to speak with her,” you said following after her, her family calling out good luck as you all knew that Elena could be rather fiery.

You knocked on her bedroom door, but she only told her mother to go away, not acknowledging if you had come to the door.

“Can I come in Elena?” You called.

“Yeah.”

As you entered the room, you found Elena lying on her bed, her glasses removed and her eyes red from a few tears escaping.

“What’s wrong?” You asked, sitting on the edge of her bed.

“They always try to intervene,” she frowned. “I shouldn’t have told them.”

“Told them what?”

She paused, realising there wasn’t really any way to escape what she had said.

“That I might like you,” she sighed, avoiding eye contact.

“Then I guess it’s a good thing that I might like you too,” you smiled.

Elena looked up at you with a beautiful smile, almost thankful for her family interfering in your interaction.
