Captain Marvel
I just watched Captain Marvel and that movie was so fucking empowering. Brie Larson portrayed a strong, independant female hero. I was so happy to see the amount of young girls walk into the theater, watching a movie where the female isn’t saved, but saves other. A woman who doesn’t have to smile to please a man. Who doesn’t need to prove herself. Who won’t be told what to do because she can make her own choices. That’s who I want my kids to look up to. I walked out of that theater proud about being a woman. I felt represented. My insecurities became my strenghts. Sure, it had it’s flaws, but what movie doesn’t? One thing that was certain was that every young girl and woman in that theater saw a piece of themselves in Carol Danvers. And it made them feel powerful and capable. I don’t know why it got bad reviews (probably because those who rated them were white male misogynists) but that was without a doubt one of my favourite MCU movies, and that says something. Captain Marvel was a big step for Marvel towards women empowerment and representation and hopefully it’ll only go forward. Higher, further, faster, baby.
