I came to a realization when I was in pain last night. I’m going to take the plunge, even if I get sick along the way. After this IG b.s. is over, I’m making two accounts. I’ve been ignoring my desire to write about disabilities and women’s health. If @pixaronward has taught me anything, it’s that you should take a plunge, even if you might fail. If @theianlightfootofficial can do something like magic, I can be a professional writer and blogger. This is what work from home looks like when you have an #IC flare mid day smdh. Happy Hump day 🐫!! As #interstitialcystitisawareness months comes to a close I am so glad to say I completed my first round (6 treatments in 6 weeks)!!! It hasn't been easy getting 2 new medication plus treatments, injections, and multiple side effects but I MADE IT and I feel absolutely amazing and grateful for my progress! Now that we have a handle on things I can start the external work on myself. While I love being a #curvygirl I also want to be a #FitWoman. I'm so blessed to be given the opportunity to feel some relief and have the chance to enter into this new season of #progress in all areas of my life. Thank you to @beyondblessed06, @sharodgoodman, @tomboydiva1, and @golden_joy11 for being with me every step of the way. I couldn't have done it without each of you supporting me through it all. This smile is from the heart because I know that God brought me through to be a hope to other #chronicillness sufferers. My story isn't over and the ultimate author has a plan so grand for me that even I can't always see. IT'S HUMP DAY!!! Which also means it's treatment day. Today was 4 of 6 and while successful it was also STRESSFUL!!! I woke up late which means I had to "hold it" until my 11am appointment because I have to get testing prior to treatment and as I stood at the desk doing my potty dance (anyone with a bladder knows the one) I was repeatedly ignored by the receptionist who decided to take her call without acknowledging me. 🤬🤬🤬 As I stood there I realized 1 of 2 things may happen, either I would have to use an outside restroom which means no sample for my doctor and no treatment ( throwing off my treatment regimen)😤 OR I stand and wait and potentially have an accident (embarrassing)😰. As the tears stung behind my eyes I was FINALLY able to get a nurse walking by to get me a sample cup and I raced to the bathroom barely making it.🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ The stress of it all causing my back and bladder to spasm this making treatment extremely uncomfortable 😔. Then my amazing Urologist tells me that Heparin (which is vital for me) is low in stock because of a crisis in Africa so I may have to recieve CHEMO meds (ahhhh!!!) next week or an alternative which has to be given in larger doses (more pain smdh)☠ She also said that my bruising worries her so we have to adjust my meds as well. Great visit right?😆 Lol After all of that all I could think about was getting home to my safe space ( a chair in my garage lol and writing). I pulled out my @midnightandindigo bag, laptop , and pen and let my souls frustrations manifest on paper. Today was treatment 3 of 6 and it was soooo welcome. I have had daily intense flares this past week and was in dire need of some relief. Having #interstitialcystitis was something I never considered when my doctor sat me down a decade ago and told me my journey for normalcy would be an uphill battle. I explain my diseases to people and the reaction is always ," I don't know how you do it!" But the truth is I wake up everyday and tell myself," YOU WILL NOT BE A STATISTIC! " As a young black woman in this country I fight stereotypes and statistics stacked against me everyday and I REFUSE to let my health reduce me to just another number! 63% of people with this condition can't work full time due to symptoms. 63%!!!!! Every time I show up for work, get on a flight, body 12hr shifts day after day , I am BEATING that number back! I don't always have good days. I am not always optimistic. I can't move some days, my other autoimmune diseases flare without warning, any type of stress sets my body aflame, and I stomach over 80 pills a week just to make it. But none of those things will ever stop me! None of those things will ever steal my drive and determination to #Liveintentionally ! September is #INTERSTITIALCYSTITISAWARENESS month! Someone you know may be suffering so I hope this posts and the ones to come can open a dialogue about this disease and let others out there know they are not alone! I am with you. I pray for you.
