Speaking of Subj2 and connecting with others... he wants to, badly. He wants to be close to someone who's just like him. It's why he's so fascinated with Rhine, Rotwang and Dottore. But by "just like him" he actually means exactly like him. Someone who can understand him as a person, who shares his views of the world, who is interested in his interests etc, and who likewise would react to things in the same manner as him, both towards other people (a complete rejection of others no matter what) and towards each other (an unwillingness to ever abandon one another). And that doesn't quite happen,

He no longer Seeks to.#Rotwang is incredibly up Subj2's alley but there's /one/ singular problem there. Rotwang is Too Obsessed with the abyss.#On a surface-level that's great for Subj2 bc they share the Exact Same Interest to a degree that's frankly miraculous to come across #but the issue I'm speaking about is that they view the abyss Differently. Subj2 perceives the abyss as something To Use.#Rotwang perceives the abyss as something To Be Used By. Rotwang's goal in its purest form was to bring the abyss into the world #not for any particular reason other than he thought the abyss was beautiful. This obsession means he WOULD betray even Subj2.#And then there's Dottore who also clears all of the fundamentals but Subj2 is eyeing him like a hawk on the Other Two 'requirements'#The difference between /them/ as far as Subj2 can tell is that he (Subj2) wants to connect with others but is perfectly fine with Only One #(in this case for example he's totally satisfied with Only connecting with Dottore & no one else in the world. in fact that's Preferable)#whereas he's looking at Dottore's other dynamics and there's a divide between them bc Dottore seems to want OTHER connections as well #which then intertwines Subj2's last two requirements. Dottore's decision to not reject the WHOLE world implies an upcoming abandonment #The idea of Dottore having sb else as well (even as a close friend) is enough to solidify the belief that Subj2 Will be discarded one day.#maybe not right now but Someday For Sure which is a messed up thought process. Connections with others invalidate the connection with Him #& Dottore's case especially makes me wince bc it's not only reserved to /one/ segment. Subj2 is looking at All The Segments' Connections #If one of them has a relevant connection to someone else it instantaneously hints at Every segment's potential to grow close to sb else #so one segment's actions are enough to alter The Overall bc while Subj2 views them as different... he also acknowledges that At Their Core #they're the same Dottore. so if One has the ability to care for & love sb else then They All Do. <-most fucked up brain award goes to Subj2

#madk #Motsu Akuma to Danshi Koukousei #makoto x jonathan #jonathan x makoto #this was one of the things about the manga that was endlessly beautiful and fascinating to me #often people cannot reconcile the idea of both being true #sure there are exes #people who love or once loved each other while also hating them #but it's not simply about loving and hating someone #and most depictions of this involve hate evolving into love or love evolving into bitter hate #but in madk love and hate are hopelessly intertwined between its main characters #Makoto is driven by his revenge and his hate for J #and yet even as he will not falter in his mission and continues to hate #he recognizes that no one in any realm holds his heart other than J #it's a twisted love #it's a story that admits that this love and this hate cannot be separated #it's a story that says by hating J Makoto has come to love him like no one else #Love and hate equal in obsessio #And it's what makes J's ending so tragic too #This was always going to happen #and it's not only that Makoto was deprived of the perfect resolution of revenge he desired #but it's the realization that after changing so much #after becoming that person you hate and obsessing over them so #they leave you. and now you're all alone. chasing the satisfaction of revenge once more. yearning to be loved and hated and obsessed over to #inflict your pain on someone else so you can feel some semblance of peace #and the cycle continues #Makoto wanted Jonathan dead early on #but when Jonathan died he took Makoto's heart with him🥲#i just be ramblin #madk spoilers
