Exclusive Interview The Hero's of Baldur's Gate- Where Are They Now? Six months after saving the Faerûn we caught up with the unlikely band of misfits turned celebrated heros to see how their newfound fame was treating them and what greatness we could expect next. Our next profile took us to the City of Splendors itself for an update on the whirlwind romance of the Wizard of Waterdeep and his beloved bard. Words by Bertrude Crumb, photography by Esme Oswald

The tower in Waterdeep is quiet in the way only shared spaces can be- lived in, warm, unmistakably theirs. There's a mug cooling on the table beside a stack of arcane texts, a robe draped over the back of a chair that clearly belongs to neither of them exclusively anymore. Gale Dekarios answers the door barefoot. "Sorry," he says, smiling, glancing over his shoulder. "We were mid tea." Jessica appears a moment later, effortlessly radiant in a soft green dress. Her hand finds his without looking. It stays there the entire interview. They are newly married. They are insufferably happy about it.

Bertrude: You both seem…very settled.

Jessica: (grinning) is that the polite way of saying we’re smugly in love? Gale: We’ve been warned about this interview. They exchange a look, the kind that lands somewhere between laughter and a shared secret, before Gale continues. Gale: I think we’re just…content. Which feels dangerous to admit publicly. Jessica: After everything we survived I think we’ve earned the right to be content and smug. They sit close on the chaise, knees touching, Gale’s thumb idly tracing the edge of her ring as though he still can’t quite believe it’s allowed. Bertrude: Your relationship sounds like the stuff of fairytales, a whirlwind romance in the midst of saving the world. When did it start feeling real and less like a bards tale? Gale: Honestly? The morning after the wedding.

Jessica: He said “wife” and then had to lie back down for a minute. Gale laughs, unabashed. Gale: I didn’t pass out. I considered it. There’s an ease between them that feels earned rather than performative. No theatrics. No posturing. Just two people very clearly at home- in their tower, in themselves, in each other. Bertrude: Saving the world isn’t exactly a small feat. Gale, you’re no stranger to fame as a former Chosen of Mystra, but how do you both balance the desire for privacy with well…being seen?

Jessica: I don’t mind being seen with him.

(she says it lightly, but decisively) That’s part of loving him. You don’t get one without the other. Gale looks like the answer still floors him. Gale: She’s braver than I am. Jessica: He's wrong, I’m just stubborn. They laugh again, but Gale’s hand tightens briefly around hers- a quiet, grateful thing. Bertrude: And marriage? How does it actually feel?

Jessica: Surprisingly normal all things considered. Gale: In the best way.

Jessica: It feels like we just made it official that we’re a team. There’s a pause. Not awkward. Thoughtful. Gale: Also, I like saying “my wife.” Jessica: (deadpan) He says it constantly. To strangers. His students at Blackstaff. His tressym. Gale: Especially to my tressym. As the interview winds down, they walk us to the door together. Gale tucks a lock of Jessica’s hair behind her ear without thinking. She straightens his collar with practiced intimacy. Before leaving, we ask one last question. Bertrude: What’s next for the two of you? They answer at the same time. Both: Breakfast. They laugh, kiss- easy and entire unbothered- and close the door on the rest of the world.

Inside, the mug of tea on the table grows cold. Life continue. And true love, not the stuff of fairytales, has settled in for the long haul.

Heart to heart with the future Archduchess.

"Baldur's Gate has always been a city of survivors, I admire that."

The name of Lady Seara Alsevir has been circulating through Baldur's Gate like a wildfire. The enchanting portrait and news of her arrival has spread out across the city from the upper echelon of nobility to the Outer city and even the refugees who arrive at our gates. There has been a lot of talk about the elusive noble lady who hails from Suzail, Cormyr. From an old line of nobility and mixed with draconic blood that lends her innate magic powers. It is no mystery why the whole city has been enchanted by her.

It is obvious that the Lady Seara has been raised at court in Suzail, giving the atmosphere in Wyrm's Rock Fortress a breath of fresh air. "Like I told Enver, this place needed a female touch that has been neglected," she laughs when I inquire about it. Her laugh is warm like the fire that's reflected in the dragon scales on her body, her heritage clear to everyone. Her movements are like grace personified, a clear testament to her upbringing. The gown she is wearing of a beautiful red silk and gold embroidery stands out.

While she takes me to the formal sitting room, we meet Lord Gortash in the hallway. There is tenderness between the two that is palpable as a quick kiss is exchanged. "Isn't she the most beautiful woman you ever laid your eyes upon?" Lord Gortash remarks which causes a blush on Lady Seara's face. "Mon coeur, you're too kind." There is another look back when we walk closer to our destination.

Ever since your arrival in Baldur's Gate, the whole city seems to be vying for any information about you. How does it feel to finally be in Baldur's Gate?

"You flatter me Miss Stir. It feels good to be here and to have the warm welcome that I have received. I never had to opportunity to visit on my past travels but I've always been curious. It's a city of rich history and of great resilience. It feels wonderful to be embraced by the people of the city."

As you speak of being embraced, we couldn't miss the opportunity to ask about your meeting with our future Archduke.

A soft smile lights up her face when we mention her betrothed, Lord Gortash. "I was overjoyed to see him, the last days I spent on the ship to Baldur's Gate from Waterdeep felt like weeks. I couldn't be happier, he is a wonderful man. Sune was right when she put me on his path, it is a perfect match. It was also a blessing to be able to just be the two of us for the first days in the city. I will cherish these moments where we got the time to get to know one another. It has only strengthened our bond."

People were very surprised that there weren't a lot of early sightings for the both of you. There was only a visit to his parents.

"Like I just said, it was an intentional choice to get to know each other before stepping forward as an united front. And it was the best choice that we could have made, we talked a lot those days about our own goals, ambitions and what we can do for the city. We wanted the seed of our love and relationship to be able to take root in a solid foundation." "The visit to his parents was wonderful. They're so proud of him and to get their blessing was high praise. They clearly dote on him so I was a little bit nervous." The Lady Seara giggles slightly while her eyes drift away for a second to a happy memory. "Like Enver had said to me before, they support us and I'm grateful to have in-laws that are so lovely."

And what are the plans for the future Archduchess? Any specific things that you want to do to support Lord Gortash?

At this question she clasps her hands together in excitement. From sources from Suzail, the Alsevir-family supported many charities and were very respected for their initiatives. It's clear that the youngest daughter has taken that with her to our city. "I have many plans for Baldur's Gate. Enver said it to me yesterday: 'Sweetheart, don't burn yourself out, we have time to make your plans come true.' The first thing on the agenda is opening an orphanage and school for the children of the Flaming Fist and City Guard that have fallen in service. Who would we be if we turned a blind eye to them? When the Absolute-crisis is dealt with, I do plan on opening more possibilities for education. The future of the city lies in our youngest population and some of the brightest minds who could change the future could slip through the net if we don't foster it." I notice that her excitement is accompanied with some light sparks that escape from her fingertips.

Would that idea be influenced by our own Lord Gortash?

"Is it that obvious?" she asks me with a big smile on her face. The Lady glows at the mention of her betrothed. "People like my beloved who come from humble beginnings, could be the driving force between change. Like him, they could be just what the city needs. If we don't foster that, we are holding back on progress that we could make. Look at Enver, he invented the Steel Watchers and made the streets of the city safer. We need to be open to give people chances like that and it starts with giving the youngest ones an education."

This is very different from your upbringing. How do you combine this line of thinking with your birth in nobility?

"It is indeed very different from my upbringing. I grew up in the court of Suzail and had the opportunity to learn from the brightest minds. I was fortunate to have a childhood that people would dream of, fortunate to have the chances to develop my own magic powers under powerful people. This only strengthens my belief in my goals. I am not here to say that the nobility of this wonderful city needs to make radical changes or that they're not doing enough. In contrary, this is a city with a rich background and we should be proud of it. I'm very excited to collaborate and exchange ideas with the lords and ladies of this city."

As we wrap up our interview, Lady Seara gets whisked away for an appointment with Lady Linacker and Lady Jannath. After a warm goodbye, I get escorted outside by her maid Yanna. "Lady Seara is a kind and good soul," she reveals, "Her kindness extends to the whole staff and she will be a wonderful Archduchess."

Before I set back out to our offices in the Baldur's Mouth Gazette, I overhear another group of Flaming Fists singing her praises. They inform me of an earlier instance this morning where the Lady Seara addressed both the Flaming Fists and the City Guard with words of encouragement. The future seems to shine bright on our future Archduke and Archduchess.

Same ones as I write—BL Romantasies, high fantasies, low fantasies, adult fiction, Slice of Life, Enemies to Lovers, Slow Burn, Hurt/Comfort, Angst/Fluff/Smut 💫✨

Are you a planner or a write as I go kind of person?

Little of column A, little of column B. I think a healthy balance between the two makes for some great planned (and unplanned) adventures! 💛✨

What music do you listen to while writing?

So funny thing….I don’t listen to music when I write. But, my favorite writing white noise is gameplay of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dead by Daylight, or Friday the 13th without commentary, played at a very low volume. Something about a revving chainsaw sparks my motivation to write (or maybe it’s fear? 🤔)

Favorite books/movies?

Anything Disney +mutuals’s stories ✨

Any current WIPs?

So far finishing up YWIMC before I move on to something big….👀✨I have a lot of stories on the back-burner and am focusing on one at a time 💛

If someone were to make a cartoon out of you what would your standard outfit be?

Very comfortable gray-knit turtleneck or hoodie, comfy pants, stylin’ shoes, and my bag of holding (numerous things. Backpack I carry around that has all my daily necessities ✨)

Create a character description of yourself:

Okay picture Link from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Got it? Okay. Make him gay. Give him some cartilage piercings. Maybe a few eye bags due to the insomnia. There you go. ✨

Oh also make him chaotic good. Because the world needs more kindness, and I will give the world more kindness. The world does not have a choice in the matter. 🌏💫✨

Do you like incorporating actual people you know into your writing?

Considering what I write? Absolutely not.

Are you kill happy with your characters?

Depends on the character and the narrative. I like happy endings, but sometimes a character must die. 🤷‍♂️

Coffee or Tea while writing?

While I write? Water. While I wake up? Coffee. While I get ready for bed? Tea.

Slow or fast writer?

Fast writer, slow motivator. Once I get on a groove I can usually go on 5-6 hour writing binges at a time. I just have to get there first with all of my projects….🫠✨

Where/who/what do you draw inspiration from?

Myself mainly, and my friends and mutuals secondly. I’ve been writing for myself since I started making fanfictions as a teenager, so I’ll never NOT make stories for myself. Gaining a supportive community on writeblr has given me an extra boost of motivation, because now I feel like I’m writing for myself AND for my friends and mutuals ✨

If you were in a fantasy world, what would you be?

The person that somehow finds themself in harrowing situations only to stumble my way out of the problem through sheer coincidence and bullshit. Or a bard. Probably a bard. Maybe both of these things 🤔✨

Most fav book cliche:

Two dumb idiots (/positive) go on an epic quest and learn about each other in the meanwhile. (See: The Emperor’s New Groove)

Least favorite cliche:

One-trick pony characters that lack depth, or exist just to check off a box.

Favorite scene to write?

Anything involving the two main protags.

Reason for writing?

My own personal enjoyment, and to share my crazy mind with the world for entertainment and create joy and inspiration to a community of genius minds (You. I’m talking about you. Yeah, YOU. Keep writing, keep inspiring, and keep on keeping on) 💖✨
