An idea came to me in a dream. Now it's in my head, and you have to read it. /j

Look, nobody becomes as Dramatic and Extra as Vlad Drama King Masters overnight. I am suggesting a school AU. Ghosts are still there, because of comedy.

Vlad, of course, is the theater arts teacher. People (kids) have started to sneak their phones out when he goes on dramatic tirades. If you play along with him, you get bonus points. He is, sadly, one of 3 teachers that will do anything about bullies.

Safest class if you're a nerd, because he has, at least 5 times, grabbed Dash & Dale by the bak of theor lettermans like a mama cat picks up her babies and put them outside. He has also made Kwan & Dash cry. Dash will not admit that.

Harriet, the journalism and ESL teacher, has...something going on with him. Love/hate? Hate/hate? Love that looks like hate? No one knows. She's 5'2" and every bully in the school is terrified of her.

She's made every bully- then the coaches, then the rest of thr football team cry. Every time somebody bullies someone in one of her classes, she tears everyone involved with them a new one. Coach Tetslaff has gone as far as to tell football players they're not allowed to even talk to her.

Vlad is the only one seemingly immune. They like to pick (very loud) fights with one another. There are bets from students, teachers, and staff alike on when they'll kill one another, get together, or one will finally drive the other out of the school.

They've been common-law married for 10 years and think the bets are hilarious. No one knows.

Engineering and Physics teacher Jack Fenton is hopelessly oblivious. All a bully has to say is 'we were just playing', and Jack assumes it's true...even if the person being bullied disagrees. He's easy to distract, just ask about ghost stories and boom! Lesson's over. Also sometimes a literal boom. Students have to wear fireproof lab coats and face shields.

His wife, Dr. Maddie Fenton, teaches chemistry. Half the school thinks she's sleeping with Vlad because the two loudly flirt. They're not- they just started play flirting when they were 10 because it sounded funny when adults did it and never stopped.

Danny and Vlad both fight ghosts to protect students. Neither knows the others' identity, but neither can afford to be found out, so they make excises for each other's absences. They frequently conflict, to hilarious results.

Valerie figured it out within 2 weeks. She has abused this system to get a free A in Vlad's class- didn't turn in homework? Oh no, a ghost! While he's gone, better copy someone else's.

She hates Phantom, likes Danny, and 3 weeks after she meets Phantom, has figured it out. She's Going Through It and nobody knows why.

Clockwork is a teacher as well. What does he teach? Nobody knows. Danny's the only one who can seem to remember his classes. Whatever it is (ghost history, etiquette, and politics), he's got an A. Everyone thinks Phantom is a much older ghost than Plasmius bc Danny's always taking him aside to teach him how to work with other ghosts.

There's at least one sub who thinks ghosts aren't real.

Cursed necklace DPxDC AU

Vlad is a 24yr-old student who dies in college...in the early 1900s. Since then, he has haunted the University of Wisconsin by virtue of his his old necklace.

He likes the school- and the students like him! Since photography became accessible, students, teachers, staff, and visitors alike have been trying to get photos with him, students bribe him to help with homework (after all, he's been auditing classes for a century), mainly with cheep beer, fried cheese-related foods, and (since some kid introduced him to the Green Bay Packers), Packers memorabilia.

The students leave the game on for him, and the brave ones turn the lights off and leave a spot open for him in the hopes of seeing the Wisconsin University ghost up close and personal. (If they combine this with cheese sticks and beer, it's a near guarantee).

In general, he's a beloved figure. But then the Fentons start college there. At first, it's cool! These humans have made machines to let them listen to him (with some translation errors), they're building a portal to the GZ, which means he can have other ghosts to talk to, again, and they're fun!

Oh. Wait. They're being kicked out because they tried something unethical. Oh well! Somebody just turned on a Packers game, and he can smell the cheesesticks already.

Little does he know, the Fentons have created their prototype thermos. Until his necklace (and due to the lack of ambient ectoplasm), essentially his core is in there.

For 15. Long. Years.

Danny- not as Phantom, just Danny- finds the box and, with the curiosity of a 9-year-old opens the box. Soon, he's contaminated, despite his new buddy trying to keep him safe. And dies. Yep 9 year old Phantom.

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! See Damian was a TWIN! Bruce is, when he tracks down said twin, Very Displeased by the lack of safety measures, and takes his other biological son (and his son's sister who is only 12 rn) home with him.

Bruce does NOT know about his hitchhiker; a centuries-old vampire ghost. He also doesn't know Danny's dead. More under the cut!

Clark gets mind controlled and tries to start a fight. Tries being the operative word here, because his 9-year-old is fighting a grown Kryptonian. And winning.

Plasmius steals cheese a lot, turns TVs to Packers games, and is generally a nuisance. Constantine is called.

Constantine has a new best friend because holy shit, a real ghost who's willing to talk to him! He can get so much info!

Bruce: Can you get him out of my house? Plasmius: Where Danny goes, I go.

Danny: Hey, can I have this? *eats a blob ghost in front of everyone*. *shares half with Plasmius*

Constantine is both horrified and curious. Clark gets punted across state lines by a vampire ghost who was Not Happy his kiddo got in a fight. Jason gets therapy a la a 12-year-old girl, a 9-year-old half-dead kid, and a centuries-old ghost.

There's enough ambient ectoplasm to thrive on, so Plasmius can roam and Danny can start learning powers. Vlad starts teaching Jason on the sly too.

Danny starts talking to bats, cats, rats, and a snake Damian rescued. Damian takes him to break into zoos to see what else he can talk to. Bruce is tired.

Plasmius uses his doubles for housework purposes in exchange for cheese from Alfred. Alfred abuses this shamelessly to drag Bruce up from the cave and make him eat.

Jasmine is Aggressively Normal. To the point where they're considering therapy, but then she gets kidnapped, talks to Harley, and embraces her alter identity as The Mindflayer.

Ok fine, she admits that is a little villainous. Maybe she can be Wraith or something? "Look, it seems you guys are being a little too upset about-", " Jazmine, you turned the Joker into a vegetable." Jason: YEAH she did! C'mon, we're going to have some fun, kids!

Just- Bruce thought he was getting two kids from an abusive household. He did NOT sign up for 2 half-dead OP kids, a cheese and football-obsessed vampire ghost, and a...NO, Danny, you CANNOT keep the giant green hellhound. Damien, stop encouraging him!

I'm working on stuff for Funeral Rights, the sequel to Cleaning the Gravestones (read here!). Let me know what you think, or if you have any suggestions!

Funeral Rites starts about 3-4 years pre-canon, when Vlad (Senior Lab Manager & Assistant CTO) receives a job offer that the family can't really afford to refuse as CTO of Axiom Labs in Amity Park, Illinois.

This kickstarts some plot, in which Vlad and Harriet end up trying (and probably succeeding) in gaining custody of Danny and Jazz for the following reasons:

They're both mildly ectocontaminated, which should NOT be happening

Yes, the bruises on Danny are probably mostly from his bullies, but some of them are bigger than a child's/teenager's hand, and Danny won't explain them

Both kids avoid being at home at all costs

Vlad's so-far buried trauma regarding the Fentons

Important to note: the Fenton parents aren't evil in this. They're misguided, neglectful, don't like to take the consequences of their actions- basically, they're bad scientists and bad parents, but they aren't intentional about it.

Cleaning the Gravestones was largely about blending the natural and unnatural, accepting that not everything can be understood, not going out of your way to hurt what you don't understand, developing and using support structures, and building both platonic and non-platonic relationships. It's also about learning to hide in plain sight.

Funeral Rites is going to flip a lot of that on its' head. It's learning where the line you cannot cross is. There's a breaking down of support structures (Danny and his parents, Wes and his dad, Dani, Katie, and their dad once they learn he's a murderer), and choosing what, if any, relationship to build back.

It's learning sometimes the secrets you keep for your family's safety can really bite you. Finally, it's about gaining closure: maybe not everything is perfect, or even close, but if you can at least pick up the rubble, maybe you can build something again. Above all: what really makes a monster? Is it being inhuman? Or something else? And how much of our destiny can we really rewrite?

Obviously, some things are different from canon. Vlad hasn't stewed in anger/hatred over the Fentons, he's (mostly) moved on. He and Harriet are (happily) married. They've got kids. So Vlad can't be Danny's narrative foil. That will be filled by someone else.

Walter Weston is an ally in this, unlike in CtG, where he was the primary antagonist. He's able to accept consequences, and feels a lot of guilt; he's eager to make up for his actions any way he can. Wesley is a lot like his dad 10 years ago, though thankfully isn't cursed by a spirit of madness.

Jazz is tired of being a mother at 13, and doesn't know how to fix things. She wants to be a kid, for once in her life, and the Chin-Masters family is promising to help with that.
