Based off of what I've seen of your love for Biba, I think you'd rather like the manga Berserk, and in particular one of its characters, Griffith, with whom Biba is often compared. It's a great series, although I must warn you it can depict violence and sex rather graphically at times. If you're interested, of course.
Haha, well, you’re not wrong! I haven’t read the Berserk manga but I’m a fan of the older TV series, which I’ve seen a few times, and honestly, I’ve been meaning to read the manga for a long time because I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. but in a way knowing that I’m probably heading towards a fascination with a new series and yet another hated character is making me want to delay, because I’m so bad at moderating my level of obsession (and can’t seem to maintain a high level of interest in more than one fandom at a time, which sucks!).
It did amuse me at the time to see Biba referred to as ‘steampunk Griffith’ etc because yeah, there’s certainly a basis for that, and in that respect I’m sure your rec is spot on, and I’d be interested for a lot of the same reasons. I can handle graphic content, the only thing I feel unsure about is how to reconcile liking Griffith as a character with one particular element of the Eclipse. I can handle my faves being responsible for a lot of bad things but not...that. (I don’t equate liking/wanting to understand a character with condoning their actions and the events leading up to that situation are undeniably complex, it just makes me feel weird?)
The short answer: I am interested, just need to pick the right time to dive in.
Eeeeeeee I like the look of your Deadlock characters! Do you have character design sheets? And where are you going to post it when it comes out? I use Webtoon a lot but I dunno if you already have another site in mind...
Thanks! I do have design sheets but I’ll be posting them later along with other sketches. I plan on getting my own site to post Deadlock(now dream escape) and I’ll be posting a link to it and I’ll post here whenever there is an update.

I call him Hilmes now to try and get used to the change, but deep down he’s always going to be Hermes… I would love to see the Heroic Legend of Hilmes being a thing. And I believe (read: hope) that Hilmes will the ruler of Pars upon Arslan Senki’s completion. It makes sense, seeing that Hilmes is the most legitimate candidate for the throne, if you take Andragoras out of the equation. I recall it being stated (possibly by you) that Arslan himself does not wish to become the Shah, so if we abide to his will then that only pushes Hilmes’ agenda further. He has been shown time and time again to actually have rather good leadership abilities, and strength and strategic skill that could rival that of Daryun and Narsus’. He even seems to hold respect for the skills of those who serve him, and in the early chapters of Arakawa’s manga condemned the traitorous and cowardly actions of Pars’ royal members. I do think that once he gets over his crushing case of vengeance and anger management issues, Hilmes can be redeemed and will make a fine ruler of Pars. Or perhaps my incredible bias for Hilmes is causing me to overlook his faults. I don’t want him to die, I want him to be happy too. He would never have been like this if it weren’t for Andragoras. (˵¯͒⌢͗¯͒˵)
Ah I’m going to have to change too, I think, but it’s going to be so strange!
Yeah, I tried to resist it at first (because I was worried it was just what I wanted to see and not what would actually happen, because I too have a ridiculous bias for this man and sometimes struggle to know whether I’m being objective or just obsessive, and most of all because if something horrible does happen to him in the end I’m never going to get over it and hoping that he gets a good end will just make that worse) but I’ve reached the point where I’m 100% behind the Heroic Legend of Hilmes theory. Fuck.
I wasn’t the one who mentioned about Arslan’s own wishes regarding being king, that would probably have been someone who’s read the novels in full, but I do think Arslan will die by the end (and that’s how Hilmes is going to end up as Shah - even if he proves he could be a good ruler I’m not sure Arslan would abdicate and cede the throne to Hilmes; certainly his followers wouldn’t accept that). But YES to everything you said; already it’s clear that Hilmes has so many of the traits needed to rule well. Seriously, it makes me so happy that not only can I believe that he’ll be a good ruler when he stops pursuing revenge at the cost of all else, there’s a chance it’s going to happen.
...I actually want to talk a lot more about Hilmes and how right from the start his role in the story has been very carefully handled so that we can later accept him as a protagonist rather than antagonist. I dunno, though; maybe I really do lack the objectivity for it (sometimes I get a bit ashamed about how much I like him but I honestly believe he is a good man and that he didn’t yet cross the moral event horizon despite having done some bad things, so yeah...).
I swear, if I have to see him die at the end of the story, I am never going to stop crying over it. Nope. I can’t even think about it.

I heard that shortly after the anime’s end, the spelling of the name was officially released in Japan to be “Hilmes” as opposed to “Hermes”. Much to my dismay. (ˊ̥̥̥̥̥ ³ ˋ̥̥̥̥̥) Also someone pointed out on Reddit that the spelling of “Hilmes” makes more sense in Arslan’s setting than “Hermes”, although I’m not too sure of this myself as I’m not particularly knowledgable in this area. From my knowledge, English translations are often inconsistent in these matters. At least, for the ones I read. ( ◞᷄દ◟᷅ )
Yeah, it does seem to be the case. I came to the fandom through the anime so I got to know him as Hermes first, but was prepared to switch for the sake of consistency/accuracy to the version used by the manga (which I expected to be “Hilmes” after reading this post from Kodansha, stating that the creators had asked for that spelling). I got very confused when they appeared to use Hermes instead, only to change again for Vol. 4. I suppose I’ll have to suck it up and make the change soon.
The same thing happened with the anime’s dub (it was also mentioned that these changes were made to bring the names in line with those used in the PS4 game). So I suppose we’re going to see Alfarīd and Isfan instead of Alfreed and Esfan (and thank goodness no Xandes anywhere).
I suppose translating the names is even harder than usual, because it’s not just being translated from a phonetic Japanese spelling, there is also the matter of the historical/mythological influence for the names and terms used in Arslan Senki...and those are not always clear! I don’t know whether you are following the fan translation of the novels (currently part way through the second book and ongoing) but the person responsible for those has done a lot of research looking into where these names originate from (see the character page for details) - and when even Tanaka himself is inconsistent (using variants of the same names, taking inspiration from different historical periods, occasionally using the Greek/Latinised versions etc) it must be an incredibly hard job. The notes for the chapter where Hermes / Hilmes / Hirmiz reveals his identity are a fascinating read!
And something I didn’t catch when I first read those notes (probably because I read it back before Hermes became my favourite):
‘Note also that “Hirmiz Shah” is a very Arthurian sort of figure in Mandaean folk belief — “They say that Hirmiz Shah will return one day to rule over Iran” — and according to author’s notes, the Arthurian legend is a key influence on this series.’
IT REALLY IS THE HEROIC LEGEND OF HERMES.
PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE. Please let him become the Shah of Pars, the good ruler that he always had the potential to be. (I’ve got a lot of thoughts about this, most of which are probably way off base due to lack of familiarity with the later novels, but I am very VERY invested in redemption for Hermes and if it happens and he doesn’t have to die in the process I will never stop crying tears of joy because he deserves this good ending and I hope it’s not too dangerous to dream that he might get it)
I've just found your blog, oh my goodness I love it so much! If possible, could I ask a request of a scary situation where Hermes is bullying Arslan, and/or a funny situation where Arslan is sassing out Hermes? If it isn't too much to ask... ^^; (My dark Arslan Senki fantasies are running amok again, sorry...)
Why did this seem so interesting to do?! I read it and wanted to draw it right away. Ah it went down a different road but basically here it is:
I am very bad at the sass so it somehow ended up like a mirrored situation. I think it would have looked better if they looked a bit beaten and tattered but I can’t bring myself to draw Arslan in physical pain yet! I am still weak to my cinnamon roll. Maybe one day in the future...
I hope you like it, if even a tiny bit.

B. What is your first thought when you receive a message on Tumblr, are you excited for the idea of someone from potentially the other side of the world wanting to talk to you or fearful that someone will criticize you?
Yeah, I’m usually super excited. I don’t expect to get any anon hate and I love getting mail irl. It’s like a surpriseee. You don’t know what you’ll get.
The only time I get nervous is when I post about something that’s controversial.
