We finally got up the nerve to go in Walmart. In spite of the big booms of thunder, me zoning out and some guy talking to Chief, he did really good. Follow is a fairly new command for us. It helps when I am disassociating, or zoning, Chief will follow my husband, and guide me through the store. Yes, I know we need to work on his focus a Lot more. But we are a zillion times better than we were a few months ago!! Working on loud noise and storm anxiety!! It is completely possible to take a dog that is terrified of storms and teach tyem to work through the stress of it. Is it easy? No. Does it take a Lot of effort on your part? Yes!! Is it 100% worth it? YES!! Getting there. We went from 100% stressed to calm and happy in less than 30 minuets today!! Today he happly played catch the treats while it stormed!! Working on loud noise training. For some reason, Chief has devolved a fear of sudden loud noises. Thunder Storms are the worst. So we are working on it. Service dogs are Not robots and sometimes have issues.
