I’ve been working on this since forever. Taking my much needed time since I don’t write as often as I’d like to. But I have had the fist chapter done for a while. I’d just like to get ahead and work on the other ones. Anyways, I thought I’d post it here for White Day since it’s a good opportunity to. @inuyasha-valentines

Mistaken Identity
Kagome gets mistaken by the mysterious half-demon, Inuyasha, as the woman he was supposed to chauffeur to the big boss’s restaurant to discuss certain business. The stubborn dog ends up making matters only worse for himself, and Kagome.

She would have thought that her life couldn’t get any more strange. Not to say that it was strange to begin with. She was just an average Japanese college student trying to get her degree. She wanted to make a name for herself as a reliable pediatrician. She wasn’t currently dating and worked part time at a coffee shop to not rely on her mother as much. That’s all. Nothing made her different than others so for the life of her she had no idea how she ended up in this mess. After all, she only wanted to go to the library to return a book.
“Look, I don’t have time for this.” Kagome, a first year in university expressed. “I just need to return these books in that slot over there.” She pointed to the wall of the library the stranger was leaning on, a return slot for books after hours. She wasn’t sure what to think. Was he some pervert? A part of the Yakuza? She quickly glanced down at her attire, worried that it might have sent some unwanted attention. A simple halter blue dress that ended just above her knees, brown flats and her small yellow side purse. Her ink black hair was down and wavy and she wore little make up. All Kagome could do was wonder how her clothing was asking for trouble. She looked back at him, defiance in her eyes. ‘I will not let him have his way.’
“Look, you’re taking this cosplay thing to a whole different level if you start harassing people just for fun. This isn’t funny.” Kagome spoke loudly to him and prayed she sounded as serious and intimidating as she thought she did.
Although the mysterious man before her was leaning against a wall, he was obviously tall. His strange yet attractive long white hair complemented his slightly tanned tone against the black and white suit he was wearing; his muscular build noticeable. His eyes were a hypnotizing amber gold and ears that resembled that of a dogs were perched atop his head. Kagome was indeed in fear for her safety, but the attractiveness this man gave, she had an odd fantasy of following him.
With a malicious fanged grin plastering his face, he stayed in his spot, leaned against the very wall she was pointing at.
“Look here girl, I was sent to get you okay? It’s not my fault if you didn’t get the memo.” His clawed hands made their way to the air, in a sort of ‘I don’t care’ maneuver.
Kagome could only glare at the man before her. Her blue-gray eyes trying to pierce through this odd persona.
‘I swear, this is like some plot of a dumb show or something. It’s not like everyday a handsome man with animalistic qualities bumps into you…the eyes could easily be contacts...some really well made contacts, and his hair could be professionally dyed or a wig...but those ears on top of his head, they just flicked like a dog’s...how did he do that…’
Realizing that she’d been silent for a little too long she squared her shoulders and lifted her head to keep her aggressive front.
“And just who sent you?”
The odd man simply rolled his eyes and pushed himself off of the wall.
“Don’t be stupid. Come on, we don’t have time for this.” He walked towards Kagome, reaching for her arm. “You of all people should know he isn’t a patient man.”
“Stop! Don’t touch me! Get away!” She flinched back walking backwards as fast as she could without tripping, keeping her eyes trained on the man. He looked surprised and then angry.
“Look. We don’t have time for this shit. Naraku sent me to get you and now you’re backing down on a meeting you called for?” He looked very angry indeed. His thick black eyebrows, which beautifully contrasted his hair, furrowed deeply, the grin he had a while ago replaced with a scowl.
“Naraku…who? I don’t know a Naraku! I didn’t call for a meeting! I’m just a college student! Just let me be that!” Kagome screamed at him. She looked around frantically, trying to find anyone to help her. It was dark out, but only nearing nine thirty at night. The summer months would be arriving soon. How could there be no people nearby? Not even a security guard!
‘I don’t need some ridiculous cartoon adventure! My life is stressful enough as it is! I’m already late turning in this book!’ Kagome quickly looked to the strange yet impossibly gorgeous man before her, then down to her book in her hand. ‘Crap! This is exactly like a plot to a kid’s show!’
“This is a prank show, isn’t it? I’m being pranked in some outrageous prank show. It has to be, right?” Kagome’s chest heaved deeply with every word. She dropped her books, now forgotten she placed her free hands to her chest. She was having a hard time breathing. Her chest was starting to hurt and with every breath she took, she felt like she was missing it somehow.
Falling to her knees Kagome did little to get away from the fastly approaching stranger. He kneeled in front of her, his anger now gone. He looked confused and worried, his ears going flat against his head. He reached out again for her, only slower. Kagome tried to scramble away from him, her hand still to her chest while the other aided her rear against the ground.
“No. Please.” Kagome heaved, sweat was covering her flushed face and her blue-gray eyes holding unfallen tears. She closed her eyes to focus on her breathing, the pooled tears finally falling. ‘One, two, three. One, two, three.’ Her eyes still closed, Kagome felt the man grab her arms. His hands were rough, but his touch wasn’t. His cool hands were welcoming against her ever growing hot skin.
“Hey come on, what’s going on? What’s happening?” He was confused, she was yelling at him like she didn’t know what was going on. Did he really have the wrong girl? He continued to watch her struggle for air. He adjusted himself to her. Kneeling behind her to keep her sitting up and held her shoulders.
The man lowly uttered a growl of annoyance. Noticing her purse he reached into it, grabbing out her wallet and taking out her identification card.
There it was, Kagome Higurashi, 24 years old.
“Fuck. I do have the wrong girl.” He put the ID card down and held her again, examining her closer than he was able to before. She continued to exhale heavy and long breaths and her skin felt hot to his touch. Looking down he noticed her staring up at him. Her eyes were dark, she was looking through her thick lashes and he was staring back.
“I’m,” her voice horsley low, “I’m so sore.” Kagome tried to hug her arms around herself but failed. “I’m so tired.” She closed her eyes and let her exhaustion take over, her body limp in his grasp and her breathing evening out.
“Oh fuck me. I really screwed up.” Growling to himself, the handsome stranger looked back at her ID card for her address. Rolling his eyes he put her items back in her purse and closed it. Gently, he picked her up in his arms. Her own arms falling limp to her exposed side while the other half was warmly close against him. Looking around him to make sure he had all of her things he noticed her fallen book.
‘She said she wanted to return it to the library.’ He looked back to the wall he was leaning on only a few meters away. ‘Well, it’s the least I could do I guess.’
Carefully, he placed her back on the floor and picked up her book to return it. He put the book through the return slot and laid his head against the cold brick wall. He let out an annoyed sighed.
“How did I fuck up this badly?” He eyed the unconscious girl on the ground. Now understanding that she wasn’t the girl he was looking for she looked so vulnerable on the ground. ‘And that’s my fault. I freaked her out so much I gave her a damn panic attack.’ The man winced to himself and made his way to Kagome. Picking her off the ground again he lifted her in his arms with ease and began walking the way she came from.
‘I’m gonna fucking hear it now too. ‘Stupid Inuyasha, you had one job! Good for nothing half-breed!’ ’ Inuyasha mentally mimicked his higher ups already knowing what was going to be said when he came back from his failed mission.
“I can’t let them know about her though, they may try to kill her if they know she saw me outside of my disguise.” He suddenly stopped and looked around him. Still not sensing or smelling anyone, a small bundle of nerves grew deep in his belly.
“Shit. It would look very suspicious if I just walk around with her like this. I don’t need anymore trouble.” He looked around and walked to the closest building, a parking structure. With grace and precision he jumped high into the air landing atop of the structure and began running from rooftop to rooftop. Already very familiar and acquainted with the city, he knew where to go from the address on her identification card.
After scaling each necessary building with hardly any required effort, Inuyasha landed on the rooftop of her apartment. He looked down to the girl in his arms. She hadn’t stirred once during the run and that worried him. He uttered a low growl as he made his way to the roofs edge and looked down. The apartment complex wasn’t all that extravagant, a very typical building with neighbors in between her apartment. Cautious to not be seen by any neighbors, Inuyasha placed Kagome gently on the roof of her building and went into her small purse and easily found her house keys. He went down to her door first to unlock it and put the keys in his pocket before carrying her down with him. Upon entering her living space Inuyasha couldn’t help but to be engulfed by her smell. It was everywhere.
The smell was difficult to describe in one word, but he knew it would engrave itself into his brain. The intoxicating smell was emanating from every corner of the room and as if his mind allowed him to, he suddenly remembered the situation he was in. He quickly closed the front door and made his way past the entry and into her living space. Looking around to his left a small kitchen and to his right a door. He opened it expecting her bedroom yet was greeted with a suffocating small bathroom. Grunting he closed the door back and made his way to the living room, the girl still in tow in his arms.
“Is this where she lives?” He looked around the room. A small t.v. on a short bookshelf and a rolled futon were tucked nicely in a corner. A rectangular small coffee table which he could only guess doubled as her dining table was off center below her one large window. And the only average size furnishings he could see was a tall dresser and a study desk next to it. Other than her desk decorated with open books, a cup of writing utensils and a lamp, the rest of her home was relatively clean.
He placed her gently on the floor and walked towards her futon and began rolling it out.
“Ya know, this place is tiny as hell. How do you even live like this?” Inuyasha wasn’t expecting an answer and was happy to not surprisingly hear one back. He picked her up and placed her on her futon, her weight pushing against the pillows and mat made her captivating sent valley up into his nose. He grunted, he wasn’t sure why she smelled so amazing to him, but it was really starting to get on his nerves. Wanting to leave even faster he quickly took off her shoes and grabbed her purse. He placed her purse on her desk chair, not really knowing where it would go and placed her shoes at the door entryway. Making sure to lock the lock on the doorknob, he left her, hoping she’d believe their encounter to be only a dream.

So I decided to jump back into the world of fanfiction thanks to the one and only @witchygirl99. This is mostly a way to distract myself while on call overnight, but hey, it beats watching reruns of the Great British Bakeoff 43 times in a row. Not sure how far I’ll go with this but for those interested, it’s a Witcher AU. Bon appetite.

summary: “It’s not like I did it because I like you or anything. When this is over, you’re probably dead meat, and I won’t care a fucking bit!” – “You know, I’d maybe believe you if you hadn’t just taken a bullet for me, you jerk!”
Well well well... who have we here? A long lost soul who is just about ready to jump into a magic well herself. Anyways, until I find one, let’s plunge back into this story instead, shall we?

He was glaring at her from the couch. That seemed to be his favourite pastime--staring angrily at the world, as if it had done him a great injustice. And he was very good at it. He’d been at it the entire evening, staring and glaring and grumping his way through the day. Frankly, she’d had enough.
“Why do you hate me so much?” she casually asked as she plopped down onto the couch beside him, at a safe distance (which was as far away as possible). “Thinking about it, I probably saved your life as much as you saved mine. And I’m letting you stay at my place even though you stole me and my car and an entire bag of ramen noodles--speaking of, you want some for dinner?”
He glared at her. After he had glared some more, just to make sure she’d gotten her full share, he gave a shrug. “Fine,” he said and tried not to look at the bag of ramen noodles which she had dropped in the corner a day ago and which neither had touched since, “But I didn’t ask for it.”
“Technically they’re yours, you know. You stole them. I mean, er…” she trailed off. “Not technically yours, either, then. Anyways. Somebody has to eat them.”
His brows rose as he followed her train of thought and, upon finding what she said was true and being displeased by it, he just ground his teeth and crossed his arms and managed to look, if possible, even grumpier than before.
“Inuyasha,” he suddenly said, and the single word hung in the air between them.
“Um?”
“My name.”
“Ah.” Kagome blinked, unsure how to proceed. He wasn’t looking at her anymore, but somehow the mood in the room had shifted. A change in light, perhaps. A crack in the armour. A smile tugged at the corner of her lip, and she was glad he didn’t see.
Inuyasha. This guy sure was a piece of work.
Well, she would just accept his name as payment for the food. For now. He’d have to offer up more, and soon. Sighing, she got up and walked over to the bag full of ramen. Her starting point, she decided. Why had he stolen an entire bag full of noodles? Was he that poor? But then why had he been chased down by an entire shady mob and why--the word came back to her clearly now, suddenly recalled--why had they wanted him alive?
What in the world was going on?
Stealing a glance at him as she made for the stove, she found that he looked on edge. For a split second, his eyes met hers. They both averted their gaze immediately. This was going to be a long evening, after a long day, after a long night.
But what then? What about tomorrow, and the day after that?
Life had not stopped moving, not caring that her life suddenly had. It might be Sunday today, which was a good day to ignore reality, but tomorrow was another deal. Mondays had the tendency to make everything worse, but this particular Monday might just put all her previous ones to shame. There was her internship, and the lunch date with her friends, and possibly an actual date which said friends had been pushing her to go on… Yes, the real world was still out there. And it didn’t look like it was interested in making space for the brooding man on her couch.
Such were her thoughts as she came back with the noodles, not finding a single answer to the many questions in her mind. It was giving her a headache.
The cup was barely on the table when it was snatched by Inuyasha. A long period of slurping began, and no other sound interrupted their dinner. When he half-tossed the empty cup onto her table, Kagome cleared her throat. He ignored her, putting his legs up on the table and thereby knocking the empty cup right off.
“You insufferable--” Kagome hissed, and now it was her who was glaring, and for a split second he looked surprised. She didn’t finish her sentence. She kept looking at him, fists clenched.
After a moment, he picked up the cup and placed it back on the table. “Happy?”
“No.”
“That makes two, then.”
She sighed. “You could just leave. Since you seem to have everything so much. And I don’t think we’ll become friends.”
“I will.” He looked at her now, properly looked, face turned and eyes intense. And as he did so, for just the fraction of a second, his face slipped and there was a longing on his face that was so full of pain that she felt it, too. Then it was gone. “Tomorrow. Tomorrow I’ll be leaving, and we can both go on with our lives. Won’t that be nice.” His tone didn’t sound like it would be nice at all. Well, not his life, anyways.
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
Her eyes dropped to his shoulder. The wound was concealed under his shirt, but she knew it was there. She remembered sewing it shut. Despite everything, she hoped she hadn’t screwed that up. He had to be in pain. Sometimes, when he wasn’t aware of her attention, she’d see him flinch and grimace with his movements. It had only been a day.
And god knew where he’d be going once he left her home. Something told her wherever it was, there’d be no sterile conditions. And what if the wound reopened? What if she’d been to clumsy?
Well. That was none of her business, she reminded herself. And she tried, she really tried not to care. He didn’t even deserve it. He’d been nothing but a jerk.
One more night. One night, that was all. And then she’d send him on his way, and be happy about it.
“Better get some sleep, then.”
Now this was something they both could agree on.
The blanket she’d handed him yesterday was still there, though she’d folded it in the morning and put it neatly to the side. She handed it to him wordlessly before getting up. She couldn’t even look at him, so angry was she suddenly, without even knowing why. He’d made her angry all day, alright, but this was different. She was hurt.
Why did he have to treat her like this? Why did he look at her like he hated what he saw?
Biting her teeth, Kagome made for the door, following a sudden urge to get out of the room. Away from him. Then she’d feel better. Tomorrow, she decided, she’d go visit her family.
She half turned in the doorway, before flicking the light switch. “Good night. Inuyasha.”
Darkness fell, but in the dim light that settled in the room, she could half see, half feel him looking at her. He didn’t say anything, but she could feel his eyes on her, remaining there, as if searching for something he couldn’t find. This new expression put her on edge more than the angry glares she’d had to suffer all day. Kagome felt odd. Could he see that she was returning his gaze?
Quickly, she turned and left him behind in the living room. Her heart was pounding, and she only calmed down once she’d showered and changed and sat down on her bed. Only now did she realize how tired she was, and how much the last 24 hours--no, it was more now, one day and a half, but it had passed in an odd kind of slow blur--had taken out of her. She was ready for sleep. But her thoughts kept wandering back to Inuyasha, and she couldn’t help but wonder just who he was. Was he sleeping now? She supposed so.
Kagome suspected he hadn’t gotten a good night’s sleep in a while.
And somehow she felt neither of them would wake up well-rested.
She was right, though she didn’t know why. Kagome closed her eyes.
When she opened them again, it was not yet morning. It wasn’t the sun that had awoken her.
It was times like this when Kagome wished she was more prepared for her indefinite arrival in the feudal era of Japan. If only she had an emergency bag packed with survival necessities and the simple casualties of her time, she wouldn’t be huddled so dangerously close to the fire pit within her home ready to kill for an overstuffed parka. After living two winters with Inuyasha at her side she would think that she would be able to adjust to living the hot summers with no air conditioning and the cold unforgiving winters without a heater, or in her case, a longed for kotatsu.
Kagome, home alone and itching for some company frequently eyed the entrance of her hut. The bamboo door thick with its winter coverings to keep the icy winds and snow out of the hut. She was waiting for Inuyasha’s return of, god only knows what. The half-demon refused to tell her where he was headed; only for her to stay home and he’d be back shortly. Kagome debated at this time whether to find some enjoyment and warmth in Sango’s hut.
“No, he’d get mad. Plus I really want to know where he went.” Kagome mumbled to herself.
Sitting in front of a cozy fire with no one to talk to, Kagome began thinking of many things. Her future as the priestess of this village, her future with Inuyasha and of course her future in handling winters with no kotatsu. Soon enough she drifted to sleep in front of the fire, unconsciously leaning to her side to lay down.
If someone were to ask her how long she slept, Kagome wouldn’t be able to give an answer. The warmth of the fire on her front and a welcoming direct heat to her back, Kagome felt as if she was under a kotatsu in her living room. The stress of the winter beyond her reach as she laid under the thick blankets while listening to her grandfather ramble on about spirits and demons. It was in that moment that she knew something was wrong. As if it no longer hers to have. Reluctantly Kagome sat up from her blankets and looked to her grandfather. He hasn’t aged in the slightest and as she watched him speak about a family heirloom his voice drifted to nothing, but his mouth continued to move. That’s when Kagome realized she was dreaming. She wasn’t back in her childhood home listening to her grandfather as she rested under a kotatsu. She was in her home in the feudal era in front of a fire pit in her hut.
Kagome slightly stirred awake, coming to her senses that she did dream of being under a kotatsu, but she still felt as if she was under one; she was just so warm. It puzzled her considering how cold she was before she fell asleep in front of the fire. Under her blanket she shifted warming herself away from the fire and to the other source of heat. Realizing what she was doing, Kagome shot her eyes open and looked behind her, warm golden eyes putting her at ease immediately. Inuyasha laid beside her, under her blanket, warming her backside.
“Good morning sleepy head.” Inuyasha teased with a grin at her surprise.
“Inuyasha! When did you get back?” Kagome quickly turned to face him but keeping close for his warmth.
Inuyasha laughed aloud, a sound Kagome would never be able to get sick of. “Well I’m not sure when you had fallen asleep, but I’ve been keeping you warm for about an hour now.” Kagome smiled at him, happy for his return.
“We have mats ya know. You don’t have to sleep on the hard floor. I wanted to move you, but you just looked so comfortable that I couldn’t bring myself to move you.” Inuyasha sheepishly grinned and nuzzled close to her neck.
“Awe,” Kagome cooed. “Well I’m glad that your back. I fell asleep because I was dying of boredom, and I couldn’t even go visit Sango and her girls cause you wouldn’t let me. Plus it is freezing!”
“Sorry, I didn’t think it would take me as long as it did. The snowfall is pretty heavy outside. You walking to Sango’s hut would have been very dangerous. I had to dig out a path so the snow would stop falling through the mat. I’m surprised you were able to sleep at all.”
“I haven’t looked outside much, I don’t even want to be near the walls right now. Honestly it’s so cold that I’d kill for some insulation.” Kagome chuckled. “But why were you out for so long? What were you doing?” Kagome stayed close to him still, but sat up slightly to look around their hut for anything out of place.
Inuyasha smiled again and pulled her back down to him to burrow his face to her neck again. He smiled against her neck as he heard her giggle at his actions.
“Can’t tell you just yet.”
“Ohh come on Inuyasha! That’s not fair.” Kagome sat up and unconsciously Inuyasha followed suit and grabbed their blanket. He pulled her to his lap and wrapped the heavy cloth over her front and behind his shoulda as much as he could.
“I was all by my lonesome; so cold and waiting for my love to return.” Kagome dramatically loosened her position against Inuyasha so she laid across him, a hand gracefully against her forehead.
Earning a laugh from Kagome’s childish antic, Inuyasha bent over to lightly kiss her chin. “Well you warmed up pretty well to me. I thought I was going to wake you when I got under the covers, but you clung to me pretty tightly.”
Kagome laughed and sat back up to snuggle closer to him so her back was against his chest. “Well no wonder I was having such a comforting dream. I dreamt that I was back at home, and I was listening to my grandfather go on and on about demons and the shrine and family heirlooms, but I was under a warm kotatsu that I didn’t mind it at all!”
Inuyasha grinned slightly at her dream. A pang hearing her speak of the family she left to be with him.
“But it was so weird.” Kagome continued. “I was very comfortable under the kotatsu, it was as if I was back in high school, grandpa looked as if he hasn’t aged at all. I realized I was in a dream because of that. I guess I was so cold I dreamt of being under a kotatsu.” Kagome laughed slightly.
“Kagome, what’s a kotatsu?”
“Oh!” Kagome stifled a laugh, “of course you don’t know what that is. I’m not exactly sure when they were made, but it’s this lovely thick blanket combined with a short table with a heater or hot coals under the table. It’s mostly used in the winter. It’s a great way to keep warm during this type of weather.”
Inuyasha smiled, but it didn’t reach his ears and his lively golden eyes held a seldom look of regret.
“Eh? Inuyasha what’s wrong? Do I need to explain it better?”
“No, no I think I get what it’s supposed to look like.” He mumbled and brought his face closer to her neck. He inhaled her scent deeply and with a shaky exhale, he nuzzled deeper onto her neck that, so much so that it concerned Kagome. She leaned away from his warm touch confused at his sudden change in demeanor.
“Inuyasha? What’s wrong?”
He shook his head slightly mumbled a lazy ‘nothin’.
“Oh don’t give me that attitude Inuyasha. What’s wrong, your mood just suddenly changed? Did something happen?” Kagome’s usual concern for his well being struck him differently than the times when she would treat him for minor wounds. Inuyasha felt obliged to answer.
“It’s nothin’ I tell ya. I just feel bad is all cause…” Kagome stared at him, her eyes burying themselves within his own in complete undivided attention. He scoffed slightly, “...it’s just cause you left the comfort of your time to come here, and I can’t give you the things you used to have to keep you comfortable. Your family too, you can’t see them anymore. The last time you saw them is how you remember them.”
Kagome’s chestnut colored eyes widened in surprise. “I-Inuyasha.” She stuttered. “How-I thought you stopped thinking like that along time ago?” She balled a fist and lightly hit the top of his head in retort.
“Silly dog boy.” With her eyes closed, she affectionately placed her forehead to his together and exhaled a small sigh. Opening them slightly she gave a small smile. “Inuyasha, if this is something I’m going to have to repeat on a yearly basis, it’s going to get annoying.” She chucked slowly. Inuyasha tried to keep his eyes to hers, but in an unusual manner, he looked away.
“All jokes aside Inuyasha, I don’t regret my decision to leave my time to come here. I wanted to live the rest of my life with you. Yeah, I miss the advantages and technology of my time, but it’s nothing if I can’t be with you. As for my family, I do miss them terribly. I want to see my mom and see how much taller Souta has gotten. I want to know if my grandfather got anymore wrinkles and if Bouyo got any chubbier. Of course I want to see them, they are my family. But you are my family too…”
Inuyasha finally made eye contact with Kagome’s. His deep honey gold eyes danced with hers, as if seeing her for the first time.
“I missed you in a different way than I currently miss my family now. I longed for you Inuyasha.” A cold brisk of wind made its way into their hut and onto the side of Kagome’s face. She shivered slightly and smiled. “It’s like how the trees outside miss the sun. In order to grow and thrive they need the sun, you are my sun Inuyasha.”
Kagome blushed deeply at her own sappy analogy, but smiled sweetly to him nonetheless. “It’s not as if I was miserable with my family, but those three years without you was difficult. I even wondered to myself if it was all a dream. I was suddenly ripped away from you, it was traumatic honestly.”
“I may be wanting a kotatsu or some air conditioning, but those mean nothing if I don’t have you by my side.” Kagome wrapped her arms around his shoulders and buried her head to the crook of his neck. She could feel his chest sink in with a deep exhale and it relaxed her. She changed her position again to lay her head on his chest, the blanket still warmly wrapped around them. “And besides, I still have my experience from my time. There are traditions we adopted from other countries that we do as well. Like around this time during the winter, there is a holiday called Christmas. We don’t celebrate it the same way or reason the Western countries do, but it is a fun to practice still...especially with a lover.”
No matter how many times they’ve kissed or lusted towards one another, Inuyasha still easily blushes at the mention of their relationship, especially when she was the one to mention it so innocently.
“Oh yeah? And what do lovers do on this ‘Chrissymass’?” He seductively squinted his eyes and lifted the side of his lips to a classic smirk.
Kagome giggled, “Well usually gifts are exchanged and cake will be eaten, but for lovers, I’d assume they did whatever they desired when they had the privacy. I only ever did gift exchanges and ate cake with my friends. Kinda like those sweets I would bring Shippo except it’s a bread.”
She raised her head towards his face and pressed her lips against his. Their kiss was passionate with need, a hinted suggestion at what’s to come. Kagome enjoyed the warmth he gave off as she cupped the sides of his jaw, where his neck met. She brought the kiss in deeper, Inuyasha holding her tightly around her waist and back.
“Wait-” Inuyasha broke the kiss to Kagome’s and his own disappointment. “You said during that...time gifts are exchanged? Like actual gifts right?” Kagome nodded her head, confused at his wonder.
“Sorry, but wait right here!” Inuyasha quickly got up and wrapped the blanket around Kagome and left the hut as quickly as he had said it. Dumbfounded Kagome sat on the floor by herself again, the comfort of her own kotatsu gone.
“Wha? Inuyasha where are you going?!” Kagome yelled and tried to remove herself from the comfort of her blanket, but found it nearly impossible as the cold air struck her. She groaned loudly and with a huff wrapped herself back in the blanket.
“Here I go again, playing this unknown waiting game.”
The said game didn’t take nearly as long as it previously did. Within minutes Inuyasha was making his way back inside their hut, shoveling through the excessive amount of snow outside; back inside and shook off whatever snow still stuck to him. Grinning like a child ready to show their mom a cool trick, Inuyasha turned to Kagome and rushed to her side. Quickly they were back to cuddling the cold away. Kagome, back in his lap smiled to him eager at his own excitement.
“Inuyasha! Where did you go?”
“I stopped by Miroku and Sango’s. I had to pick something up.” Inuyasha’s grin still stupidly amorous on his slightly flushed face.
Kagome laughed in bewilderment. “Inuyasha what in the world is going on? I’ve never seen you act this way, you’re so excited! And why were you able to go to their home? The snow is seriously deep!”
Inuyasha said nothing and reached for both of her hands which laid on his chest. Her smaller hands covered by his, he brought them to his mouth and blew his hot breath onto her hands. “It’s dangerous for you stupid, ‘sides, I had to pick something up from them. If I knew I was going to give it to you today, I would have brought it straight home rather than hiding it at their hut.”
Kagome could only stare at Inuyasha. A tint of blush to her cheeks she stayed silent as a million thoughts of what’s to come ran through her mind.
“So I don’t know exactly how this Chrissymass thing you said works, but I do have something I can give you.” He released one hand from her and reached into the inside of his haori and pulled out a small chain. He heard Kagome gasp in surprise. They made eye contact and Inuyasha pulled out the rest of the thin chain to reveal to her a necklace. He held it to her and in awe Kagome gazed at it. Her eyes followed the thin chain link down to the shine of the crafted silver pendant. The pendant resembled that of a large tree, the details well proportioned and organized finely within the metal. The branches thick and wide filled with detailed leaves and a little indention of what looked like a scar on its trunk.
“I-Inuyasha, is this...how did you get this?” Kagome stuttered as she eyed the necklace. Carefully, she held the pendant of the necklace in her palm, reveling in the detail embedded within the metal. Hearing his chuckle, Kagome’s eyes finally left the beauty of the pendant and connected to his. A smile graced his face and he wrapped his arms around her again.
“This is why I was gone, Totosai had it ready for me but didn’t want to travel through the winter storm to give it to me. It took a lot of persuading to get him to make it. The old man never made anything like this before. And there was work on my part too, had to get someone to draw the tree to show him how to make it.”
“You did all of that? Inuyasha...I love it. I absolutely love it, but I’m still wondering why? This is…” Kagome exhaled loudly still in shock at the homemade jewelry. “...it’s beautiful.”
“It’s because I saw you one day, at the Goshinboku. It was during the summer; I was out with Miroku taking care of a demon and when I came back, you weren’t in the village. For some reason, I just knew where to go to find you, and I did. You were sitting under the Goshinboku, and you just looked so beautiful. And then a thought occurred to me; the Bone Eaters Well wasn’t the only connection we had to one another. The Goshinboku is alive and well in your time too. We both have a connection to the tree and for some reason or another we end up visiting it. But during times when you can’t go to the Goshinkboku, like today, I still wanted you to still be able to see it. Honestly the urge to make this for you was sudden and strong. It was just something I had to give to you. Other than the well, the Goshinboku is a connection for both of us as well as the start of a new life.”
Inuyasha took the necklace from her and placed it over her head to hang around her neck. Moving her hair from under the chain, the pendant laid beautifully on her chest.
“Inuyasha, I’m speechless! I love it so much. This is just so...spontaneous!” Even as Kagome rose herself to him to try and give him a passionate kiss, her smile did not leave her face. She could feel her tears pool to the ends of her eyes and fall, staining the sides of her cheeks. Their kiss continued to grow and Kagome’s mouth finally relaxed and their kiss deepened as their tongues lapped over the other. Soft moans emerged from Kagome as Inuyasha hands moved around her waist and back as if searching for a way to expose her skin.
“Wa-wa-wait...Inu-yasha...wait.” Kagome mumbled through their kisses. Begrudgingly he obliged and released his mouth from hers.
“What’s wrong?” He asked as he nuzzled her neck.
“Well, it’s just that I didn’t get anything for you. I didn’t realize that we’d be doing this and I feel bad now.” Kagome’s face flushed as she felt the warmth of his his bare hands find their way past her clothing.
“Don’t worry about it. You being here with me is a gift all on its own. But if you really want to give me somethin’,” Inuyasha whispered into her ear as if other people were in the room.
“I could hold you to it right now.” He lightly licked her outer ear. Earning a small shudder in response he grinned and adjusted himself so she laid under him.
Kagome smiled up at him as her arms were wrapped behind his neck. Pulling him down close to her lips she said to him, “As long as you continue to keep me warm, my kotatsu.”
Inuyasha had been a Witcher for a long time. He’d seen petty tribal squabbles, he’d seen blood shed and magic cast about so heavy that the air was thick with it. He fought creatures of all shapes and sizes that had killed humans mercilessly. He’d seen villages burn, women and children’s rotting corpses, and hopelessness spread like a plague. All this, and yet he had not seen full-on war between any two territories. But hundreds of years of relative peace was not enough to make him a fool. Whether Cintra wanted to accept it or not, war was coming. Most likely, it was already on their doorstep.
Summary: Kagome worries over her ever growing age and beauty as the love of her life seems fruitful. This fic is based on the difficult design that Kagome can’t cross the well again and that she is a regular human.
She could see it in her eyes. Fine lines at the ends and under her eyes. Her eyebrows furrowed but she quickly rubbed between them not wanting to promote anymore wrinkles.
Kagome sighed as she place down her handheld mirror. She looked around her hut. It was quite large, two extra rooms were added years go to hold her ever growing family. She was happy. Kagome never thought she’d be right where she is now before she met Inuyasha. Even after she had met him, destroyed the Sacred Jewel, and accepted that she fell in love with him, Kagome never thought that her life would be where it was at the very moment in time.
During her three years of high school and not being able to go down the well, Kagome wasn’t herself. She was happy to be back with her family. She was able to watch Souta grow taller than her and help him with girl troubles. She was able to study properly and pass her tests just as she would years before. She also cooked with her mother in the kitchen and help her grandfather around the shrine. Kagome should have been happy back in her regular time and she was, but she also wasn’t. Just as she had missed her friends from school while she was away, she missed her friends from the past even more. She spent months with them, traveling together and bonding as family does. As much as Kagome wanted to be back in Inuyasha’s arms, she wasn’t sure if she would ever be able to. Kagome avoided the topic of her ‘bad boy boyfriend’ with her present day friends as much as she could. She couldn’t bare not being able to see him and her friends were inadvertently rubbing salt in her wounded heart.
And then she felt it. The day the well, it had called to her, telling her now or never. That day she hugged her family for the last time. She kissed them and cried out of joy and sorrow. She wasn’t sure if she’d ever see them again just as her family on the other side. Her mother, the woman who was always there for her was there again. A small smile graced her face and Kagome knew it was okay. When Kagome jumped down that well and the beautiful light engulfed her, there was no turning back. Twenty-two years later, as her heart ached for her family after every child she had, never able to see their grandmother, uncle, or great grandfather, she would still not regret her decision.
Kagome tried her best to keep take of the days and months as time went by, but due to February and it’s shortened months and long months, she was sure to be off by some weeks. Also living in the rough Warring States Era didn’t help keep track of the calendar she grew up knowing. Moon phases and seasons aside, Kagome was sure if it. Today was her birthday. On this day, twenty-five years ago, she had turned fifteen years old and met Inuyasha. So today and this ‘not so technical year’, she turned forty.
Kagome quickly dressed herself, not wanting to waste anymore daytime she had since she slept in from the last nights previous work. Wearing her traditional priestess garb of a red hamaka and white hoari. and carrying her woven basket she set her destination towards her herbs in the garden behind her home. Since the season typically called for wet weather Kagome knew that the village people will be coming to her for colds and allergies pertaining to the new season.
“Oh, I also have to start planting my new herbs for the summer.” Kagome spoke to herself as she looked around her garden.
Inuyasha was already there, sweating as the sun's warm rays touched his forearms. His fire-rat haori out of sight while the sleeves to his kosode were non-traditionally tied behind him. Inuyasha’s long white hair was tied in a high ponytail to keep out of his days work as he held a shovel in both hands to dig away at the ground, ready to plant new crops for the season. Since it was springtime, the sun was able to shine its rays to warm the earth, but the wind still blew cold around them, producing a good mix of temperature.
“Good morning Inuyasha.” Kagome beamed at him, he turned around dropping his shovel.
“Good morning Kagome.” He said routinely. He quickly walked to her giving her a kiss on the lips. She kissed back, but shied away too fast for his liking.
“Why did you let me sleep in so much?” Kagome hit his chest playfully her eyes never leaving his.
Inuyasha smirked at her attempt.
“Come on Kagome, you had a sudden and late matter last night from a villager. You stayed up late making a remedy and making sure the kid’s fever went down. The least I could do was let you gain back the sleep you lost.” He heard Kagome sigh lowly and quickly give a short snort of a laugh.
“Yeah I guess you’re right.”
“Aren’t I always?” Inuyasha smirked notoriously as he reached back down to pick up his shovel. It may have been a little over twenty years since Kagome met the man, but he could always keep that same smile.
“Besides, you should be allowed to sleep in on your birthday regardless.” His back was to her as he went back to sowing the garden, but he could still see the smile that filled her face.
“Yes, thank you.” Was all she said.
Kagome took a few steps to the left of their miniature field towards the above ground herb garden she had Inuyasha make many years ago. She started humming absentmindedly as Inuyasha continued to strike the ground. Kagome’s hums along with the surrounding birds singing filled the air around them. It was peaceful and quaint, tranquility at its finest. A little too quiet for having four children.
“Oh!” She thought suddenly, “where are the kids?” Her cheeks flushed as she wondered why she didn’t think about her own children sooner.
“Ah,” Inuyasha still worked as he spoke, his voice louder than normal so she was sure to hear him over the grinding in the dirt. “They all went to Sango and Miroku’s.” He stopped his maneuvers to turn and look at his wife. One eyebrow arched, she egged him on for more details.
Inuyasha sighed under his breath.
“Kyo and Izayoi went out with the twins to exterminate a demon in the east mountains, it’s not too far, they should be back by tomorrow morning. And the other two are out training with Shippo since he’ll be leaving again soon. I’m pretty sure they’re teaching him how to write again. They’ve been addicted to it since you started teaching them since they were little.”
Kagome laughed. “Well it’s only reasonable that our children should know how to considering I do. Scholars are few during this age of war. I wish I could have taught Shippo while he was still young.” She turned back to her garden in front of her, tending to the herbs and carefully organizing them in her basket.
“What do you mean? He’s still young. The twerp still has a lot of learning to do.” Inuyasha grinned digging his shovel back into the ground.
“Well anyways, I was hoping to see them before they left for the day.” Kagome whined slightly to herself. Disappointed even more that she slept in. The couple continued to work in silence enjoying the crisp air after two days of rain. Kagome still hummed as she picked from her many herbs, but her mind was on her children.
Her first born, Izayoi. Kagome smiled sweetly at the thought of her. She remembered after the baby was born she told Inuyasha she wanted to name her after his mother and he was in shock. It took him some days to agree to the name, but he was very happy that he did. He wasn’t just a half demon who only had a mother he could truly call family anymore. Kagome chuckled outwardly and gained the attention of her husband.
“Hey, what’s so funny Kagome?” Inuyasha teased her. He dropped his shovel again and went to her side. Always looking for ways to get out of chores.
Kagome laughed again. “Oh nothing. I was just thinking about the children. I was thinking about when I gave birth to Izayoi, I was so mad because it was incredibly hot!” She placed a dirt covered hand near her mouth as she laughed at the now fond memory. Inuyasha chuckled along with her, watching her delicately pick her herbs.
“Yeah I remember that. You were screaming so loud. Why is it so fucking hot? It’s too hot for this! Why now?” Inuyasha mimicked remembering Kagome in labor. “You were screaming so loud that I thought something was wrong and Miroku and some other village women had to hold me down from bursting into Kaede’s hut.” Inuyasha chuckled at the now funny memory. He stood next to her and held on to her shoulder. She playfully nudged him with her hip.
“You wanna try giving birth mister?” She placed her basket down in her garden and faced the half demon.
Inuyasha snickered and leaned forward so he was eye level to her. “I would rather receive a thousand sits than ever have to birth a child.” Kagome laughed at his response and pecked his lips with hers. She turned back to her garden to continue working, but her husband has other plans as he wrapped his arms around her from behind.
“Oh Inuyasha,” Kagome sighed into him as he took her in for a tender hug, his chest to her back and his arms around her shoulders. She stopped her work yet again and held onto his forearm.“They are growing up so fast. Our youngest is already ten!” Inuyasha only chuckled lightly as he laid his chin lightly atop her head squeezing her a bit tighter.
“Yeah he is. They are all growing so fast. Even though it’s been seventeen years since Izayoi was born, I feel like it was not that long ago.” The wind around them blew cold against their faces and overcast started to fill the sky within their silent reminiscing. She heard Inuyasha sniff.
“Looks like there’s gonna be rain tonight.” Kagome nodded softly and slowly turned around to hug Inuyasha from the front. She wrapped her arms around him as he did the same to her. It was within that sincere moment that Inuyasha could smell it. Salt, it was in the air, but so feint. He pulled back a bit to look at his wife’s face.
“Kagome, are you crying?” He stared at her in confusion, wondering what he may have done...or didn’t do.
The woman in question absentmindedly shook her head and tried to go in for another hug, but Inuyasha wouldn’t allow it.
“Wait, Kagome, what’s wrong? Did I do something?”
“No Inuyasha you didn’t. Don’t worry about it.” She tried again for the hug wanting to ignore the ever growing tears filling her eyes.
“Don’t fuck with me Kagome. What’s wrong?” Again Inuyasha held her arms, away from his body, and looked her in her eyes. They swelled up more as she looked back at him.
Kagome dropped to her knees, forcing her husband down with her. She leaned against Inuyasha and cried.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen Inuyasha.”
“What do you mean Kagome?” He was beginning to sound frantic, uncertain of the sudden change in behavior of his wife.
“Inuyasha, don’t you see?” Kagome pulled back from him, her cheeks flushed as hot tears continued out of her eyes and down her face. “The children are growing up so fast. I’m getting old!”
“Wha? Kagome, you’re not that old! What are you talking about?” Inuyasha couldn’t help but to raise his voice at her and grip her shoulders as if to bring back her senses.
“Inuyasha,” Kagome’s voice shook with a plea as she wanted him to understand what she was trying to say without actually saying it. “Don’t you get it? I’m just a human. I’m not going to stay young looking forever. One day, I’ll look like Keade did.”
“Kagome-”
With a quick finger to his lips Kagome stopped him from continuing. She kept her finger lingering as her eyes rapidly looked at every part of his handsome face. She took a deep and shaky breath ready to say what was on her ever aging mind. “Don’t Inuyasha, let me finish.” Kagome offered, knowing what he was going to say. He lightly shook his head in agreement and Kagome took her finger from his lips. She rubbed her hands together and looked at the ground in nervousness.
“I know that you don’t care about my looks like that, as if it’s of the utmost importance. But being human isn’t just looking old because of aging. It’s dying too.” Kagome looked back at him to try and read his body language. She could see Inuyasha’s eyebrows come together, obviously displeased at the topic of her own demise.
“Inuyasha,” Kagome continued as she tried to fight off the sobs harboring her throat as she spoke. “I’m forty years old now, and however long I have left won’t ever feel long enough with you. With our children. With our friends. You’ll continue to live long after I’m gone, but I can’t stand the thought of leaving you. Of leaving our family!” Kagome heaved a cry as she reached for the comfort within Inuyasha’s arms around her, he obliged with a lovingly tight grip.
“Kagome how could you think like that?” He squeezed her as she cried onto his kosode, ignoring the musky scent of sweaty labor. Still on the floor, he adjusted his position and leaned against one of the legs of the above ground herb garden. He opened his legs to allow the mother of his children crawl into his lap, just like many times before.
“Inuyasha how could I not?” She wept onto his shoulder. “You may not think about it or notice it, but I’m the one who’s fully human. The time will come when that will happen.” She cried and squeezed his neck and shoulders, desperately trying to hide herself within him.
“Kagome.” Inuyasha paused, but continued to hold her to him and used his right hand to gently rung her back.
He took a breath and exhaled slowly.
“I’ve thought about it before.” Inuyasha started softly. “Well no, it was more like thrown to my face. Multiple times.” He could hear Kagome’s sniffling die down as he gently rubbed her back.
“I’ve thought about things like that when my mother died; when Kikyo and Kaede died, and to every damn demon or human that threatened our relationship.” Inuyasha stopped his comforting motion on her back and instead held her tightly with both arms.
“And unless I go first in some fight or whatever, I knew that I was going to lose you Kagome. I never ever liked thinking about it, but when I did, it only made me want to love you more. If I can’t share my love for you within my lifetime, I’ll just have to do it in yours.” He heard a pitched inhale of air and he squeezed her a bit tighter, lifting one hand to cradle her head and rub his fingers on her scalp.
“When my mother died, I was devastated and lost. I was angry and confused. She was my mother and I was still a kid technically. She wasn’t supposed to die.” Inuyasha paused again, his emotions getting the best of him. He needed to be strong, but he also needed Kagome to understand his feelings about the inevitable battle against time.
“Kagome, I would do anything to keep you by my side for the rest of my life, but I can’t. You are only human and as time goes on,” Inuyasha choked back his own silent sob, the words difficult to even say, “you eventually will leave me.” Inuyasha hid his face in the crook of her neck as she has did earlier. “I don’t….I don’t even wanna think about it Kagome. I hate thinking about it, but it is true and it’s unavoidable. But that’s why we have to make the most of it.” His words became soft as his eyes grew hot as pools of tears threatened to fall.
“Kagome.” He pulled her away from his frame to look at her in the eyes as he held her shoulders away from him. He stared at her and she could only stare back at his shiny pools of amber. Two tears shed from his eyes. Kagome’s face cried in response at the emotional distress she caused him.
“You were the one who taught me and showed me how to accept myself. That I don’t have to be only human or only demon, it’s okay to be both. To be me. And I’ve come to love you for who you are. I want you to be happy and death doesn’t make anyone happy.”
Inuyasha inhaled deeply and slowly released his shaky breath as he hugged her again. “Kagome, when you pass, I will be miserable. If we weren’t where we are now, I would probably hate myself again and become angry at the world for making me who I am. But look around us. We have this place that we call our home, we have four children who are going to do wonderful things with their lives because of you. And because of them, I won’t be able to hate myself. I’ll miss you terribly, and they will too; when I look at them or think of them, I’ll see you. You won’t leave me alone Kagome because you left me such wonderful gifts.” Inuyasha lightly chuckled to himself despite the situation. “Even though I’d hate to think about it, our children will leave me gifts as well.” He dropped his hands to pick up hers and squeezed them lightly, looking at them he continued.
“Our family will continue to grow far from our time, and it’s all because of you. Because you decided that I could be loved.” Inuyasha’s words hit Kagome hard as tears continued to roll down her cheeks. The white of her eyes were red and her eyebrows were forced towards one another as she struggled to hold back tears. “And if you really want to think about it, Sango and Miroku’s lives wouldn’t be where they are now if it wasn’t for you wanting to befriend everyone.” Inuyasha finished chuckling at the recollection the things that Kagome has done not only for him, but for their friends as well that has left a permanent impact within their lives.
“Inuyasha.” Kagome wiped her eyes, trying to dry up her tears and took a heavy sniff to clear her nose. “When did you become so wise?”
He chuckled as he took his thumb to wipe a fresh fallen tear from her eyes. “You’re not the only one who’s gotten older.” Inuyasha blinked back his own tears as Kagome laughed lightly and hugged him while adjusting more comfortably in his lap.
They stayed quiet, enjoying each other’s company with their chores the last thing on their mind. The silence brought new relief to Kagome as her lover’s words echoed in her head. Soon enough the emotional exhaustion took over Kagome and she fell asleep in Inuyasha’s lap, enjoying his comforting warmth. The sun that was high above them began drifting westbound to set for the day by the time Kagome had awoken from her sudden nap. She could feel continuous warmth on her chest, but a slight cool breeze on her back. As her eyes adjusted to her surroundings she concluded that she was traveling on Inuyasha’s back. His hair was still in its ponytail, but was placed over his shoulder so she wouldn’t lay on it; his fire-rat haori tucked into his hamaka as usual.
“Inuyasha? Where are we?” Kagome lazily looked around as they briskly passed by huts around the village. She noticed clouds beginning to cover the sky above them and the sun’s orange rays weakening as the day was coming to an end.
“Oh just to the monk’s place. I was sure you’d want to see the kids sometime today.” Inuyasha teased and jumped a final large leap in front of their friend’s hut. Kagome could hear slight chatter inside and see the glow of a fire around the reed door. He gently placed her back on her feet and watched her stretch herself awake.
“Oh I can’t wait to see my babies, but we can’t stay too long. I still have to make dinner.” Kagome said more to herself as a reminder. She walked towards the door with a smile on her face feeling rejuvenated after her sudden nap.
“Oh I wouldn’t worry about that Kagome.” Inuyasha said just as she pushed the reed door open. She looked back at him in confusion but quickly made her way inside.
Kagome could only gawk at the sight in front of her. Her friends and children spread out in the common area of Miroku and Sango’s home. Kagome smiled brightly at the scene before her. Her four children were there; Izayoi sitting between Sango’s beautiful twin girls as Shippo looked to be in the middle of telling them an exciting story. Kyo and the three youngest children sat in a circle with papers sprawled around them with writing characters written everywhere. Sango was over the fire mixing a pot of stew while Miroku assisted her. Kohaku also made a surprise visit keeping Rin company, she was petting Kirara absentmindedly as he appeared to be listening to Rin’s own stories.
Kagome’s voice was hitched in her throat as she absorbed the sight before her. “Wha, what's going on?” Cries of ‘happy birthday’ filled the room as everyone’s attention was suddenly brought to her. Kagome overwhelmed by everything looked behind her as Inuyasha gently touched her shoulder. He grinned playfully at her reaction. Kagome quickly brought her attention to the group in front of her. She smiled widely and looked at her children who were supposed to be out of the village. She swiftly made her way to her two oldest surprised to see them as the others started to surround her with overlapping declarations of ‘happy birthday Kagome’ and ‘I love you mom’.
Kagome smiled from ear to ear as she tried to hug everyone around her. “What's going on? I thought you guys left to slay a demon up the mountain?”
“Nah, that was just a little story so you don’t try to look for us while we set this up.” Izayoi smiled at her mother and motioned her arms around the room. Kagome’s eyes followed her wave of directions and finally absorbed the atmosphere of the room.
“Is this...is this some sort of party?” Kagome couldn't smile any wider than she already could as she walked to her best friend and gave her a hug.
“Well you always keep track of all of the kids birthdays and give them some sort of outing and gift. We know it was a custom of your time Kagome, so we decided to try it out for you.” Sango beamed at her dear friend and reached in for another hug. The children followed suit, Kyo making it first to his mother as the others formed a massive group hug. Shippo bounced his way in, no longer small enough to land on anyone’s shoulders, he hugged at Sango’s hips. Rin and Kohaku bounded for the ever growing hug as Kirara made herself comfortable on Kohaku’s shoulder.
“Yeah Kagome. Inuyasha said that every year you never fail to say ‘happy birthday’ during the yearly season of all your kid’s births, even though they’re already a grown up. It’s a tradition from your time.” Shippo explained happily to her.
“Yes Lady Kagome, it’s like a ‘Coming of Age’ ceremony, but for the same person every year right?.” Miroku said with a smile making his own way to his wife. “That is how you celebrated it in your time?” He asked trying to make sense of ‘happy birthday’. In all honesty, it took all of them sometime to grasp the concept of Kagome’s future tradition of ‘happy birthday’.
Kagome laughed as she felt Inuyasha brush up beside her to include himself in the ridiculous group hug. “Well not exactly, but close enough I suppose. It is just to celebrate another year that you lived, and I am so happy to be spending this day with all of you here.” Kagome embraced Sango and Kyo tighter as she smiled, small tears at the edges of her eyes dared to fall. The others followed suit and hugged one another with a squeeze of radiating love.
“I love you all so much. I couldn’t be happier in this very moment, and I can’t wait for what tomorrow will bring us. Another day with my family.”
A/N: So these are some notes I had made for myself to try and keep track of the ages for the kids. I’m not a math person, so please tell me if these are wrong based on the info I provided. InuKag, 4 kids, Izayoi-17, Kyo-15, last two are 12 and 10. I really don’t want to give them names because idk, I feel heartbroken thinking about naming their children when I’d rather see it done cannonly, haha. But I have always imagined their girl to be named after Inuyasha’s mom and I’ve always loved Kyo’s name and have been imaging that name for their child since I was little (yes, Kyo from Fruits Basket, but also from Kyo from King of Fighters lol). Kagome was 23 when she had Izayoi, 5 years after passing the well (assuming she was 18 at that time, three years after meeting Inuyasha when she was 15), so that means MirSan twins would have been 8 (assuming they were 3 at this time) when Izayoi was born and their son is 5-6 , so in this time frame the twins are 23 and the boy is 20-21. After doing the math for the ages I am shook at how old they are! I’m only a couple of years older than the twins!! Sango and Miroku are getting old too! I’m crying just thinking about it! I also decided not to name Sango’s kids since this is a one shot and idk, again I felt that naming them would make them my own characters rather than the cannon characters that they are (even though inukag kids are my characters, but I didn’t give them to much character even though I have daydreamed about them before. I felt that this wasn’t the story for it).
You would think her life couldn’t get any more strange. Not to say that is was strange to begin with. She was just an average Japanese college student trying to get her degree. She wanted to make a name for herself as a reliable pediatrician. She currently had no boyfriend and worked part time at a coffee shop to not rely on her mother as much.
Apart of the Yakuza? She quickly glanced down at her attire, worried that it might have sent some unwanted attention. A simple halter white dress with large sunflowers that ended just above her knees, yellow flats and her turquoise purse. Her ink black hair was down and wavy and she wore little make up. All Kagome could do was wonder was how her clothing was asking for trouble. She looked back at him, defiance in her eyes. ‘I will not let him have his way.’
Although the mysterious man before her was leaning against a wall, he was obviously tall. His strange yet attractive long white hair complemented his slightly tanned tone against the black and white suit he was wearing; his muscular build noticeable. His eyes were a hypnotizing amber gold and ears that resembles a dogs were perched atop his head. Kagome was indeed in fear for her safety, but the attractiveness this man gave, she had an odd a fantasy of following him.
Come on we don’t have time for this.” He walked towards Kagome, reaching for her arm.
“Stop! Don’t touch me! Get away!” She flinched back walking backwards as fast as she could without tripping, keeping her eyes trained to the man.
‘Crap! This is exactly like a plot to a cartoon show!’
Her heavy breaths grew silent to his ears. Looking down he noticed her staring up at him. Her eyes were dark, she was looking through her thick lashes and he was staring back.
“I’m,” her voice hoarse and low, “I’m so sore.” Kagome tried to hug her arms around herself but failed.
Looking around him to make sure he had all of her things he noticed her fallen books.
‘She said she wanted to return it to the library.’ He looked back to the wall he was leaning on only a few meters away. ‘Well, it’s the least I could do I guess.’
Carefully, he placed her back on the floor and picked up her book to return it. He put the book through return slot and laid his head against the cold brick wall. He let out an annoyed sighed.
“How did I fuck up this badly?” He eyes the unconscious girl on the ground.
Good for nothing half-breed!’’ Inuyasha mimicked his higher ups already knowing what was going to be said when he comes back from his mission.
“I can’t let them know about her though, they may try to kill her if they know she saw me outside of my disguise.” He suddenly stopped and looked around him. Still not sensing or smelling anyone a small bundle of nerves grew deep in his belly.
Growling he made his way to the roofs edge and looked down.
“Is this where she lives?”
He looked around the room.
