The room was utterly white. Something that usually would have reminded Nagito Komaeda of the hope that he revered so much, but something that in a context like this was almost depressing. After all, the only reason that he was in this place was because soon enough all he would be was a corpse and memories that would fade away with time.
The dresser next to him was decorated by flowers and cards and other gifts for him that he wouldn't even need soon enough. The thought was nice, but he knew that it was a waste of time for anyone who actually had gotten them for the boy.
Everything still felt uncomfortable, even after all the time he had spent in this room and rooms like this one. Komaeda couldn't help it, after all. Each second was a testament to the fact that he was on borrowed time that was just almost out.
It was still hard to believe that he was going to die, even though he had known it for an extraordinary amount of time. Oh well. Just an unimportant life snuffed out. People would be sad for a bit and then move on. If anything, they would realize that any time spent on him could have been better spent. Who knew? Maybe his death could somehow bring about a greater hope. He would like that.
For now, though, there was the matter of the person who stood by his bed. Someone who would probably miss him. That was the worst part, probably. Somehow, some way, his luck had let him hold out this long. For once his loved one wasn't the one dying, and he couldn't shoulder the pain she didn't deserve for her. But then again, maybe it was a bit okay. After all, he didn't want to be the one to have to carry more weight.
It would probably be better than dying, though.
"I'm sorry you had to see me like this, Sonia-san." Komaeda finally spoke, turning his head to face her. His appearance had deteriorated with time until he only looked like a husk of his former self. Just another thing he was sorry for.
