“Yeah, yeah. I get it. You don’t like the magical stage-change, but you’re going to have to get used to it.” He shrugged, still allowing his outfit to transform into something slightly less sorcerer-y - as per Stark’s request - in light of the meeting he was being asked to attend. Why Stark wanted him at all was a mystery, but he wasn’t going to turn down a request simply on those grounds. Too often, he was reminded that even his imagination had limits, and that others saw more use in him than even he could imagine.

“Either way, I don’t wash up bad for an old man, so be grateful for that much at least before you berate me about how much you despise the magic it takes for it to happen.”

Often, Tony and Steve accused her of being childish regardless of what she did and now Steve wasn’t even here, and of course Kate blamed Tony. He lost the RIGHT of being called a mentor, the moment he supported the ACT. “— You don’t listen to my reasoning, Stark. You never listened when you tried to arrest us, SENT THAT STEVE IMPERSIONATER AFTER US… did you think that was what? funny? a joke? I know you don’t think it, but we lost someone too… ”

★— STRAYING FROM THE TOPIC OF CONVERSATION was his objective, considering it was particularly focused around him at that point. That’s what ALWAYS happened - if a member of the team had left, or taken a long break from their role -- they would receive the usual 20 question interrogation. And despite Steve attempting to remain focused on repairing his shield, he could FEEL that look that he was getting.
