I’ve had this Tillandsia (Ionantha?) for years and when I saw some of its leaves turning red I thought, no wonder it’s dying. I never really understood how to take care of it. But no, death wasn’t what it was about. I guess this is how it blooms. It looks like birthday candles!

When I'm growing them in my house, I water them carefully.

It doesn't matter if it gets wet for a few days outdoors, it won't go bad. They are alive with sun, water and wind. I realize that airflow is really important for plants.🌱

家内で育てている時は慎重に水やりしてたりするけど、

屋外で数日ずぶ濡れになろうが腐らない。太陽と水と風で生き生きしている。

風通しって植物にとって本当に大事なんだなと実感する🌱

July 10, 2018 - So this is what I find when I get home from a two week vacation, the little green pod that has been sticking out of one of my ionanthas turns out to be a seed pod! We have had extremely hot/humid days last week and I guess that was finally enough to dry the pod out and release the seeds! Germinating tillandsia from seeds is a very long and tedious process, but I will give it a shot. I have read the seeds need warmth, humidy, and light to germinate. We’ll see if a moist paper towel and sunlight on the balcony does the trick.
