The church bells will be ringing mournfully throughout the day, think I might escape them by walking down to Mylopotas. It was very difficult to get motivated today with the grey & gloomy weather. Went for a coffee & had a wake-up call looking at Mark's beautiful freshly painted white lines. He makes the area outside his shop look so pretty. Then a friend from London phoned, he was sitting in his garden in bright sunshine, but was envying me living on a Greek island. The sun didn't even attempt to come out through the clouds. Just as well I did the white lines today in case tomorrow's better. This is the first year I have no plans for Easter at all, which I find a bit unsettling. I feel I should be celebrating somewhere. My mother always made a big thing about Easter - in our home it was bigger than Christmas and Uli also used to make it a special day once he found out it was also my nameday. After having a drink with Nikki and friends for her birthday, I met up with Robbie in the main square. We went for a meal at Thai Smile which was most enjoyable. It's a bit overcast here today, but I'm just setting out to walk to Uli's house in Mylopotas. Hope it doesn't start raining. I've organised some appointments for Athens & cleared up a bit, so I'll enjoy the walk. A friend is opening her new business down in the port this evening, so I'd like to be there to wish her good luck. When you don't have transport it's difficult to fit everything I want to do into the day. Yay! The electrician came around & got the power on again by flicking a switch I'd been told never to touch .... It did make me think how much I rely on electricity - in some of the old places I stayed in back in the day, there was no electricity .... we relied on gas bottles for everything. I gave away my old petrogas cooker last year. Then nowadays there are all the electronic devices that need to be charged, as well as TVs, fridges & other kitchen gadgets, not to mention heating. Life has indeed become more complicated than it used to be & it's disorientating when you can no longer use everyday items that you take for granted. While waiting for the electrician, I got my composter working & plan to do some gardening work in the next few days. There are loads of things I could be doing instead of sitting around bemoaning the cold. Unfortunately I couldn't go for a walk today, apart from round #iosvillage, as the electricity is still off. After the power cut my neighbour's came back on, but not mine. Checked that all the fuses were up & called the electrician as I couldn't find the problem. Am waiting for him to come round after he finishes work. Had quite an eventful morning: managed to drop my purse while I was having a chat with a neighbour & spent ages retracing my steps in panic until I found it. Had to go for a quick coffee after that & am now back home again. Will try & go for a walk tomorrow if I get the electrics sorted.
