View of my favourite villa from the road. I love the green carpet it's acquired 💚 In my days of being a party animal, I didn't like coming over to the island at this time of year & Uli used to go over alone to prune the trees. Now, off season is my favourite time of year, especially when the sun is out. Ios becomes a sleepy Greek island where everybody knows each other. Everyday life is taken at an easy pace & people have time to stop & chat. World affairs shrink in importance as it's difficult to imagine they have much to do with us. Walking through the village, passing ghostly churches on the way. Went to Lord Byron & bumped into some friends there, so whiled away the evening most enjoyably. View from my rooftop. Somehow I didn't go for a stroll round the village, but got lost in wonder gazing at the sunset 🌅 from my rooftop. Truly a feast for the eyes. Yay! The electrician came around & got the power on again by flicking a switch I'd been told never to touch .... It did make me think how much I rely on electricity - in some of the old places I stayed in back in the day, there was no electricity .... we relied on gas bottles for everything. I gave away my old petrogas cooker last year. Then nowadays there are all the electronic devices that need to be charged, as well as TVs, fridges & other kitchen gadgets, not to mention heating. Life has indeed become more complicated than it used to be & it's disorientating when you can no longer use everyday items that you take for granted. While waiting for the electrician, I got my composter working & plan to do some gardening work in the next few days. There are loads of things I could be doing instead of sitting around bemoaning the cold. Unfortunately I couldn't go for a walk today, apart from round #iosvillage, as the electricity is still off. After the power cut my neighbour's came back on, but not mine. Checked that all the fuses were up & called the electrician as I couldn't find the problem. Am waiting for him to come round after he finishes work. Had quite an eventful morning: managed to drop my purse while I was having a chat with a neighbour & spent ages retracing my steps in panic until I found it. Had to go for a quick coffee after that & am now back home again. Will try & go for a walk tomorrow if I get the electrics sorted. It's the little things .... Haven't been sleeping well lately (creaky joints & aches), so I got up & fixed the glitch in my phone - yay 😊Now I can access things again & save pics 🙃Just as well I did it then as there's been a power cut for a few hours this morning. Better to stop waiting for it to come on again & get out in the fresh air.
