Oops I did it again - iPhone woes
I’ve never been known as one who takes excellent care of her cell phone. Let’s face it, at one point I managed to go through 3 phones in a year. That lead to me being punished to use an Otter box – courtesy of Jaykishan. I guess he got tired of buying me iPhones. Clearly, the fact that I have stopped breaking iPhones has hurt Apple’s stock.
Over Christmas, I finally got the iPhone 5. I had been waiting to get my hands on it, since my 2 year upgrade become available in September. Determined not to ruin the point of an iPhone with another hideous Otter box, I sweet talked Jaykishan into letting me just use a regular case. Okay fine, what really happened was: I begged and whined and swore I would treat it like my first born child until he finally agreed to let me use a regular case but it had be “Jay approved”. Off we went to Best Buy, where I warped back in time to a kid in a candy store going over each and every case as it was a life changing decision. I finally settled on a hot pink, shock absorbent fully covered but still trendy case.
Until last week, life had been good for my little iPhone, I even upgraded it to hot pink glitter case. Oh ya, it was quite the site to see, so much so, that I think the evil eye fell upon my poor phone. Last Friday, we were at his cousins house for a family dinner when my poor phone came to its ultimate demise, drowned in the guest bathroom toilet. We tried everything short of a bedside vigil to bring my little phone back to life – it’s time had come.
Luckily, I have insurance on the phone, guess that wasn’t really rocket science. But, breaking your phone on a Friday, means a whole weekend without a phone. Good thing I don’t have much of life. It’s amazing how naked one can feel without the security of their phone. Being husband of the year…wait…let’s be real, he just wanted me to stop checking Facebook and texting people off his phone, Jay was able to give me his dad’s old Samsung Galaxy to use in the meantime. I quickly learned that I will never be an Android user. It’s like Windows 8 threw up all over the phone. I couldn’t even figure out how to make a call! I decided the best place for that phone was the bottom of my purse, as this would clearly become a “use to call 911 only” phone. I was officially in iPhone exile.
I’ve spent the last few days in complete isolation from the world – no not really. But, it sure did feel like it. I mean I had to resort to using email…on a computer…to talk to my friends. I used our house phone for the first time to call Jaykishan to see when he’d be home from work, mind you, that is, after I dialed the wrong number first…I couldn’t’ remember what his number was! Besides my total lack of communication and social media, I think I actually enjoyed it! I liked the fact that no one could get a hold of me, or ask me what I was doing, or where I was at. I liked that I didn’t feel obligated to respond to texts or read my Newsfeed on Facebook. There was something very peaceful about being completely removed, reminded of my trip to the Maldives but with a less scenic view.
Yes, I enjoyed my little reprieve from technology but boy it was Christmas morning yesterday when my new iPhone came in! I couldn’t open it and activate it soon enough.
