ABD snatches victory..in the way completes 25000 runs in all forms of cricket

As we were discussing in the match preview ( http://cricent.in/post/144801693609/ipl-battle-lines-are-drawn), the RCB Top n Middle order was almost breached by some sizzling stuff from Dhawal Kulkarni. But there is a big gap between the cup and the lip; that ‘almost’ remained so, due to the absolute belligerence of ABD. RCB also found a new hero lower down in Iqbal Abdullah, he refused to just be a lackey and came up with a sterling batting display.

Gujrat Lions also traversed a similar script; exposed to middle – lower middle order within the first few overs, their innings was resurrected by Dwayne Smith. Watson was the prime destructor ably supported by Iqbal Abdullah and the rest.

GL goes on to get another shot at the finals in Delhi vs the winners of the Eliminator.

IPL – Battle lines are drawn

Battle lines are drawn; its now the sprint to the finish lines – the winners take all, the rest get left behind on the way. Gujrat Lions and RCB has one lifeline – the losers in the first playoff meets the winner of the eliminators between KKR and SRH.

Luckily for SRH they would be saved the vice like grip of four prong spin attack of KKR on conducive low and slow pitch of Eden Gardens. Both the teams are balanced – one with the best pace attack, though weakened by absence of Nehra; the other having the best spin attack. SRH though have a slight weakness of over dependence on Warner, as Dhawan and Yuvraj has not really joined the party yet. KKR on the other hand is bolstered by a bevy of all-rounders and hence has a better batting depth; but again Warner alone can be the difference between the teams.

In the first playoff, RCB will have Kohli and Chinnaswamy, where they have plundered runs at will.

With Kohli, Gayle, AB and Watson – followed by the consistent KL Rahul – it’s a line up from heaven.

The problem probably starts if someone succeeds in going beyond this. The bowling unit of Praveen Kumar, Dhawal, Bravo and Jadeja – though good, does not necessarily seems capable of going beyond the upper half of RCB line-up as yet.

But their batting looks ominous with Finch, the Top International T20 batsman, recently retired McCallum, Raina and Smith; Karthik and Jadeja are also chipping in with their bits and pieces. For the first half of IPL, the RCB bowling has been their bane barring Watson. Since then Chahal, is on track for his purple cap and Chris Jordan, has added semblance of stability to the bowling; but it might still turn out to be their weak point.

IPL: Lions improve their net run rate

Gujrat Lions tool a step closer to the playoffs; while it was a slight setback for the Knight Riders.

On a Green Park pitch, assisting pacers, quite unexpectedly, the gamble of bowling with Dwayne Smith worked out – he picked up 4 wickets for 8 runs in his allotted overs. But the pinch hitting gamble with Chawla, did not work out – though he is no muggy with the bat, Gambhir seems to see him as a batsman, trying him out at the No.3 spot on a previous occasion. While the wickets kept tumbling, things became so worse that KKR scored just 20 runs of 8 middle overs. Sr.Pathan somewhat resurrected the innings, but once gain the superlative death bowling allowed then just 8 runs of the last 2 overs.

GL seemed to be in a hurry, trying to improve their dismal net run rate. Their cause was helped by the quickfire fifty by, back from paternity, Raina.
