Thanks to Anna @blackcanarydinah all I can think about is a double date between Iris/Felicity and Sara/Amaya where they all go out to an awesome ass club dressed in their fur lined coats. 😩😩😩 save me from spiraling yo!
sorry - same anon regarding smoakwest, what I meant by icky is that it is really problematic for a white woman to insert herself into a Black woman’s wedding and interrupt her and her husband. So even though the friendship itself was fine, it left a bad taste in my mouth where I couldn’t view their friendship the same, especially as a Black person myself. I definitely would not let Oliver off the hook though. I actually think just as a matter of etiquette, he came across very self-absorbed and even ruder because he went to a formal event which is his friend’s rehearsal dinner and tried to propose to his girlfriend. At least in Felicity’s case, one can argue that she got swept up in the impromptu wedding of it all (still absolutely not okay). But Iris at least got to basically make it clear that she did NOT like Oliver Queen after that whole incident. Not that I wanted her to dislike Felicity, at all, but it’s just… why is this one of her most developed, best friendships, when her close friend would do something like this to her, you know? I guess it’s complicated, beyond even the scope of the Arrowverse, and really is a microcosm for what Black women have to put up with on the day to day.

Yeah, that’s fair—icky is definitely the right word in that case, and I completely understand where you’re coming from. I don’t fault anyone who hates the friendship just because of that tbh—honestly, even I would if not for my tendency to just overwrite/ignore parts of the show that I hate. It was definitely in poor taste regardless.
To be fair, Iris did get to vocalize her distaste with what Felicity did, when she and Barry were opening the gifts (she got hate for it, but she also got hate for her comments about Oliver in s5, so 🤷♀️). But man I wish it just hadn’t happened at all 😭 it was so unnecessary, and it definitely meant the writers had an excuse to ignore Smoakwest going forward (which is even sadder because that was like…the best female friendship on the Flash, and by far the most developed).
Your reblog of the smoakwest gif set got me nostalgic, that could have been such a good friendship. Felt like they made that friendship icky with some real problematic connotations though when they had Felicity interrupt Barry and Iris after her wedding vows to get married to Oliver during her wedding ceremony. Which is sad to me. Man, so many missed opportunities in the arrowverse.
Yeah I really hate the wedding interruption/“double wedding” too (I even wrote a fic to fix that mess), but other than that, I don’t think anything was really icky about it. It was a very sweet friendship overall, and if they hadn’t written that awful double wedding, we could’ve had more of it…but alas.
Still, it’s the most fleshed-out female relationship on the Flash, and that is both depressing and worth celebrating imo 💞 if the writers can’t do it, we at least can!
(Also, lest we forget…it wasn’t just Felicity stealing Westallen’s thunder—Oliver tried to propose to Felicity at Westallen’s rehearsal dinner! Felicity had the most overt wedding-stealing moment, but let’s not let Oliver off the hook either—he was inconsiderate too, just more quietly)
