so my uncle has been on hospice care and it's my dad's brother. i've been fairly calm and collected about it. being a helpful adult to my dad and my cousins, etc. he passed away this morning. the first thing i thought of was the scene from iron claw where zac efron is sad he isn't a brother anymore. my brain is really my biggest bully.

First time appointment with a new therapist always feels like describing the plot of Iron Claw to a person who has no knowledge of the Von. Erich family.

6. What is THE thing(s) that inspired you to make the character? Would they like it?

Mirko: my husband @nightlordmirko got the Nemesis Claw set for Kill Team, and was making up names/stories for each mini. and the one with the plasma pistol and power fist, whom he had named Mirko, was his favorite 🙂‍↕️ and went from there

Domina: I wanted to join in the Night Lord OCs 😆 but also was thinking a lot about Battle Sisters

slightly longer backstory -- my husband and I tried playing Dark Heresy (ttrpg) just on our own a while back, and our chars were Sigma-51 (tech priest) and Audacity (battle sister). Because we just getting into 40k, they were pretty basic, not a lot of grit: decently dogmatic, tried to help the planet they were sent to. And they were very professional with each other, some good comradery and respect + awkwardness too that was going to lead into slow burn romance.

SO all this to say Domina really just started as Opposite Audacity. What if Sororitas but evil? What if instead of professionalism, she screamed and spat and hit? What if instead of any kind of reasonable relationship, she and Mirko were instantly head over heels in the most hateful, mean-spirited, dumbass way possible and just never stopped

Haydee: we were fleshing out the Iron Claw together and were like there are too many damn men in this Space Marine ship..... we need another woman. what kind of woman would be on the ship beside Domina. a Navigator? a heretical Navigator? A heretical Navigator who hates working and loves getting high and drunk and is bisexual and she's 50 years old and her name is 😊 Haydee?

Would they like it: Haydee would be fine. She is something of a pragmatist. Mirko would be fine. He would agree that he was the best mini. Domina would seethe over the fact that she started as just the goofy inverse of a ~good~ Battle Sister...

7. Have they changed much since their first concept? Could they be considered the same person? If not, would they get along with each other?

I think they have barely changed at all. They arrived fully formed like Aphrodites from a really bloody and annoying ocean.

They all did get actual backstories, which informed/adjusted them a bit. Domina has her Repentia backstory, and some hobbies like writing and singing. Haydee has a lot of disillusionment beneath her glibness... Mirko ofc was touched by Slaanesh which is a fun twist to his character.

11. What would their worst/most hilariously bad crackship be? Why?

Domina: I believe that Domina could turn any relationship into a Worst Crackship.

@quescon and I were talking a little bit ago about if Domina and her dogmatic Commissar Rogue Trader, Serafina, ever met. Both deeply preoccupied with the God-Emperor and duty and traitorism but on completely opposite ends of the spectrum... yikes. juicy!

Mirko: caveat that any crackship with Mirko really hinges on 'and he can't kill them.' The worst ship, for Mirko, would be someone who can accurately see and psychoanalyze him. If therapy was a thing in 40k universe, it would be disastrous. Guardswoman!Deanna Troi would be his worst nightmare and worst crackship pairing. His ass does NOT want to be called out!! for anything!!

Haydee: oofff, thinking now about Haydee x Cassia. manipulative, jaded, ill-intentioned Navigator takes naive (but substantially more powerful) younger woman under her wing... it would be weird and it would be bad

There's a longer period — bissected by those four bright years of Sisterhood — where no one really cares at all.
