Meet the brothers from Last Hope (Calanos)
In the comic, I can't go into detail about each of them, so here's a short profile of who they are and what they're like. I hope to write extra stories about them in the comic!
Calanos belonged to the Iron Hands Chapter, and was also a Techmarine.
He was what was expected of him: a man estranged from his humanity, having left his mortal life behind.
Calanos had been human, the eldest of seven siblings. His father worked himself to death in the mines, and his mother died shortly after from a lung disease. She took three of his siblings with her. The youngest was taken by the Black Ships when she was classified as a psyker. The second enlisted. The third… he left behind when he was chosen for a greater good.
Until he found her again. The third who left behind.
She had become a great warrior as a Sister of Sorority, and she only found her brother to die in his arms.
Her name was Ruth, and she smiled at him before she died, reminding him:
"Don't lose your laughter. It was so… funny."
And something broke inside him.
He began to doubt everything around him, he grew weak, he protected mortal humans, he worried about their well-being… And he became an outcast within his chapter, increasingly isolated, until Last Hope took him in.
Since then, he has worked tirelessly for Last Hope, trying to find the balance he has lost.
His best friend is Lancrelus, although Calanos isn't very talkative. He tends to be serious, dry, and communicates in grunts. But he is a very good listener and responds succinctly, with great serenity.
He always carries with him a fleur-de-lis shaped cameo containing an image of Ruth, which Lancrelus managed to find for him.
He often believes he has dreams where familiar voices remind him whether the price they have paid is for humanity or for feeding their thirst for ambition to overcome all limits.
