Just a Ride Home (ironpepperpotts)
She was relieved when he said yes, she let out the breath she didn’t know she was holding in. Her feet picking up behind him as she walked beside him she let her eyes linger over his figure. Well dressed as always and somehow the vice she never found sexy was sure sexy on him, but there was a part of her that hated to see him smoking his life away. “Thank you, I really hate riding the bus.” Her tone was tired as she ran a hand through her strawberry locks. Dreading leaving for home but she couldn’t go anywhere else, especially with this man.
She couldn’t help but smirk at the offer, after all she hadn’t had a man offer to fix her car since high school. Not to mention that the man was the one that she once was a selfish rich snob. Though she really had nothing to truly base that he wasn’t/ He could have been using her all this time, for the chase. For anything honestly. She watched as he blew out the smoke from his cigarette and their eyes met just as she turned away, “nothing is free Mr. Stark. Haven’t you learned that yet?”
She looked down just from the thought, she knew just how true that was. She’d been naive before and accepted that things came without a price if you were kind enough. That people were true to their word, and it got her stuck in abuse every night. Coming home to a man that really could care less if she was dead or alive, just that when she’s alive she stayed with him and once she’s dead well then no one else could have her could they? The thought brought a frown to her lips.
"Thank you, but I can handle it myself." She said quick as they walked over the sidewalk. The sudden silence showed her heels clicking on the sidewalk. Her arms crossing over her chest with a sigh, she didn’t feel right. To be honest she felt sick, her heart was pounding in her chest and the closer they got the worst it was going to get.
