When everyone is like ‘Chriiiiistmas!!’ and my stomach is just like ‘No.’
When you make your own special food to be okay in a situation and that triggers a flare too
When no one believes you can need the toilet that bad when you ask to use one at the train station and they direct you to McDonald’s. 😭
I completely completely understand, Anon. I’ve been through all the same things, getting extensions, not going out, cancelling, not being with people, hermitting in my room for 3 months, fodmap, gluten free, dairy free, vegan, anything else. I’m about to go back through the process of trying to fix it as I have a new appointment with a new GP in a couple weeks, but part of me doesn’t want to because I don’t know if I can be bothered with tests and mris and getting negative on everything with no prospective solution.
One thing I will say is that what has helped me a lot is working on the anxiety/depression. When I’m less stressed, my IBS is less likely to flare, and I am less panicked about constantly needing the toilet. What I can say has helped is meditation, swimming and even *gulp* running. I vent a lot, and my lovely fiancé who listens to me rant every day often asks me why he can’t have a conversation without me talking about poo- so there are people out there! I never thought I could find someone I could be so open about it with but they exist! I have a little dog who forces me out the house even when I don’t want to, and I always feel better for it, even if I have to hold all the gas in while I walk past people.
I’ll be honest, I haven’t found any diet solutions yet though I’ve learnt things that generally make it worse (milk, oily things, beans). There’s just no saying what can set it off! But hopefully you’ll have better luck. Keep perservering, send us any message ever and any suggestions for posts. I do my best to lighten the mood and take the seriousness out of IBS with this blog ❤️
Asking the telephone interviewer to call me back in 10 minutes because my stomach can’t cope
When 2 hours is never enough to get ready in the morning
When you can’t remember what diet you’re on anymore
Sometimes I feel like it's becoming more manageable and then I end up having to get off a train on the way to work, panic that the McDonald's I was planning to use the toilet is shut and running/waddling to find a cafe with a toilet and then to find the rest of your journey became massively delayed in that time. Definitely not manageable.
