Hey I heard you may have some advice on procrastination/getting work done/actually internalizing what you learn. I feel like I just hit a road block before even starting. (Not the same anon dizzy got but I would love some advice) 💛
hey anon, i just published a long answer to another anon. but i just wanted to add some stuff about how to make yourself actually get stuff done. again, i speak only from my experience, it’s different for everyone. but part of the way i actually force myself to work is by multitasking. this is a very controversial way of doing it, so maybe it’s not for you. but when i’m writing out my answers and making all my notes and diagrams, i often put on a show or youtube video, something that i’ve already seen so i don’t get distracted, but something that makes me feel like i’m not just studying, but also doing something enjoyable. again, this isn’t for everyone i realize, but maybe at least listening to some classical music or something, just to fill that void that you’re just studying and nothing else, that makes me stick to it much more.
another good way of internalizing things is explaining it to someone else. team up with a student who needs help and explain a topic to them that you are not actually really strong at. i know it sounds controversial, but teaching is one of the best ways to actually understand it. that’s why in graduate school if you realize that you’re lacking in a certain area, you will more likely get sent to TA the class rather than take it. it’s just a lot more productive.
if you’re feeling incredibly stuck to begin, start with something you do know. write out a topic or question that you’re already ok with, that might get the process started.
in any case, anon, good luck and i’m rooting for you! school is hard but it’s also such an amazing privilege. try to get the most out of it <3
