@ishamaeli
ariaste tagged me to this so here we go!
Favorite Fictional Characters: Remus Lupin. Jean Tannen. Sofia and Lorenzo Salvara. Minerva McGonagall. Stephen Reynart. Éomer. Sebastian Moran. Mr Darcy. Henry Tilney. Anne Elliot. Frederick Wentworth. Lark Tennant. Richard St Vier. There are others as well but I'm trying to keep this concise.
Favorite Books: The Gentleman Bastard Sequence by Scott Lynch Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow Harry Potters by JKR Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones Swordspoint and The Privilege of the Sword by Ellen Kushner Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman Persuasion, Northanger Abbey, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde Anna Karenina and War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy Lord Carew's Bride, A Summer to Remember and Slightly Scandalous by Mary Balogh Pleasure for Pleasure by Eloisa James One Night of Sin and My Notorious Gentleman by Gaelen Foley A Natural History of the Romance Novel by Pamela Regis Romance Revolution: New Erotic Novels for Women and the Quest for a New Sexual Identity by Carol Thurston What Is Art? by Leo Tolstoy
Again, list could be longer but let's stop here.
Favorite Anime: I'm trying to remember when I've last watched anime. Obviously I like Ghibli – Porco Rosso forever! I guess Ouran High School Host Club?
Favorite Beverages: TEA. Earl Grey preferred. Currently also Lady Grey. Wine. Gin & tonic.
Favorite Foods: Basically anything with chicken. Or salmon. Fresh rye bread and butter.
Last movie I saw in theaters: I'm pretty sure that's What We Do in the Shadows.
Dream holiday: It tends to be London, really. Places with lots of bookstores (I WILL go to Hay-on-Wye one day!). I guess the dream would be to be able to just go around Britain and visit castles and mansions and buy books and have afternoon tea every now and then.
Dream wedding: I rather liked what my second cousin did. I very short, small ceremony and then party. Friends and family, lots of food and booze. In the summer.
Dream job: If I could be paid for doing the research I like doing – i.e. romance studies and getting excited about really small things that carry no larger significance whatsoever – then that would be really grand. For now though, I'm hoping to get to be a librarian or any work at a book store or something. Just... books.
Who am I going to tag... thethornofcamorr, dottedmelon, perelandro, ishamaeli and squareangles!
Finncon crew! A potential change in plans!
How do you guys feel about bus travel? Because ancientwinters has just brought it to my attention that there is a bus company that could get us to and from Jyväskylä for 10€/head (and that's both ways)! The trip isn't any longer than the one with train and doesn't have changes. I'm not sure about luggage restrictions, but I'm sure we can pack in a way that is reasonable! xD
The bus would leave Helsinki at 7am on Friday (at Jyväskylä 10:30am) and we could return by the one leaving 8:30pm (at Helsinki midnight).
How this sound, ariaste, captainimaginary, chibifie, dottedmelon, theduchessunseen, ishamaeli?
Again let me know ASAP!

Book list
Rules: In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag [ten] friends, including me, so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them.

Today was such a great day of school! We looked at facsimiles of the monthly installments of David Copperfield and I absolutely geeked out because of how different reading like that is! And then we had a first book edition of Vanity Fair! And a bound collection of the Strand Magazine, with Sherlock Holmes stories in it! I have come to the realisation that I'm more fond of the reading culture and literature of the Victorian era than I've previously realised, because this was honestly the best thing we've done in seminar so far and just asdfghjkl.
And then, when we were discussing the culture of reading in monthly installments, I suddenly realised that that's what fanfiction does! One chapter at a time, with readers and author in contact, the influence of readership – it's brilliant! It's almost like a revival of the Victorian way of reading!
