God Hide is just the ultimate coping mechanism. Honestly. He's someone that no matter what. No matter WHAT. It's such a common thought for people with depression, the "if i do this they wont like me anymore. If i am myself they'll leave, if i do something wrong i'll be alone". It's a terrifying fear of losing everything in a moment, because of who you are and because you're too flawed. It never stops until someone tells you over and over and you trust them to mean it. So few people with this problem ever get the piece of mind of knowing that you're something to be protected. That you have a value that makes someone want to stay and want to make you happy. Hide is that person for Kaneki, he's gone far out of his way to be that. He'll stay with you and protect you and make you laugh and do anything to make you happy. You can literally turn into a monster, you can stop going to school to keep him from seeing you, you can hide to keep him safe, you can literally eat his flesh and he'll want to give it to you. He NEVER left, even when Kaneki was depressed, even when he hurt him, even when Kaneki hated himself, whether kaneki was a quiet abused bookish nerd or he was the king of all ghouls destroying Tokyo, Hide has never stopped fighting for his happiness and that's really the most amazing thing, to have someone be there no matter what happens, that you know you could never scare away and never do anything to make them hate you. Hide is just too perfect and wonderful and he's the only person that will put enough effort in to make Kaneki truly happy.

But for real though if Ishida blesses us again and Hide is the one to get through to Kaneki and Kaneki (disoriented and barely conscious) touches Hide, smiles a tired smile and says "Ah... That must mean I'm finally dead" I'm literally going to WEEP
