I think I'll approach this first based on canon/Gen ideas, then hit upon the OT3 with CJ-verse, which tends to serve as my personal way to flesh out canon events prior to their team's dissolution. Not gonna lie, I also have a WIP about the fallout... but that can hold for a bit longer.

The series makes it appear as if Tsunade first "met" Dan at the assembly in which he stood beside her regarding the training and addition of medical nin to each squad. Thing is, the episode even has her familiar with where he lives... which indicates to me that Dan and the Sannin were already acquainted with each other, and might have been for quite a while. (Fun fact: Jiraiya is literally sitting next to her at the assembly, and Orochimaru in the row ahead of them, perhaps indicative of a slight split because of Nawaki's death? Another hc for another time XP)

The general population of jounin in the village at any given time is always hinted at being pretty limited, even less during wartime, which is when this theoretically takes place, given the unclear timeline we get to play with. The idea that they were strangers doesn't quite make sense given the circumstances. Regardless, Dan and Tsunade presumably begin spending time with one another based on that one commonality, and the relationship takes off.

With the stuck-like-glue qualities of the Sannin dynamic at this time, it would probably become obvious to Jiraiya and Orochimaru fairly fast, but they can both be stubbornly oblivious to others on the outside of their circle. Once Tsunade dropped the bomb about her boyfriend, the two teammates would likely be set to make it clear to their interloper—Dan—that regardless of the dating relationship, all three were a package deal.

Would this include a shovel talk over drinks? Finding ways to make his life a bit more hellish in order to see him prove himself worthy? Absolutely, but I also think Dan knew what he was getting into in the first place, since the Sannin, even if not romantic with one another, are what amounts to a stupidly over-connected work throuple. If Dan dated one of them, the other two would be in his life to some degree, and he would have no choice in the matter. I also believe this would result in more respect from the other two, though both probably still behave like jealous, jilted lovers. They both still wish to see her happy.

As for the CJ-verse scenario? When the Sannin first return from Ame for a short furlough after their initial deployment to war, it's on the heels of an ill-fated tryst that affirmed all of the hidden feelings between them that were there to begin with, but put on hold because of the war. The intention was that they might return to the possibility when they no longer had to fight, but Nawaki's death chipped away at this, especially between Orochimaru and Tsunade. Nevertheless, loving Dan provided her with an out, a refuge, a place to hide her grief, a place to move on.

If you're guessing heartbreak is a big part of the boys' reaction to the news in this case, you're 100% right. Orochimaru and Jiraiya are left to mutual desolation, and further disastrous actions including a night of drunk commiserating and a hook-up that drives further cracks into bonds that are already breaking. There’s never any time, not when they’re deployed. Attentions should be on the task at hand, but now that the fighting is coming to an end there is downtime, and in that downtime, idle hands grow… desperate.

Especially during the night watch.

Their unit sleeps, and the two remaining Sannin sit back to back, attending to duty. Things have been somber between them since Jiraiya remained in Amegakure, but both Orochimaru and Tsunade still find their comfort in each other, as much as they can anyway. War certainly steals the best of all things.

The crackling fire keeps them company, and for a while they have little use for words, though the late hour enables liberties of a kind. Tsunade twists slightly to link her arm with Orochimaru’s, to touch the upper part of his leg, any way to seek contact where she can find it.

Scant touches might as well be monumental ones, as they simply spark the desire for more. It’s been weeks since they have had a true moment alone, even more since they’ve so much as kissed, and the brush of her fingertips across his thigh is more maddening than he would like to admit.

“Tsuna-chan…” he whispers, nonplussed. “You shouldn’t. They might hear."

"Everyone is asleep, besides, I'm not doing anything untoward." Her voice is soft, close to his ear, and as sensitive as he is, the vibrations draw gooseflesh in their wake. 

“I would say that this is rather untoward given that we’re on duty.” He stares at the glowing embers as she puffs hot air against the length of his neck. “And you seem to forget that I can smell your want on you. You’re always such a naughty thing when it comes to these sorts of risks.”

Tsunade laughs softly, letting her hand drift along the inseam of his trousers. She leans close enough so that her lips brush against a fluttering pulse. “Well maybe I’m cold. And if I’m cold, then you must be freezing. Don’t you think we could just keep each other warm? There haven’t been any incidents for days, and all the barriers are up. If anything happens, we can manage. Alarm seals are set.”

"If you're so hungry for pleasure, you could just touch yourself, Hime."

"You know it’s not just about that. Besides I’ll only do it if you do too. And I know you want it just as badly." As if to prove her point, she runs her fingers even higher, relishing the swiftly indrawn breath and the instant pressure of his hand closed tight around her wrist, guiding it away from his body.

“I am capable of a little thing called discipline. And I’ll have you know, I’m not really one for self-pleasure. I don’t quite need it,” Orochimaru states, voice low. “Though I’d swear that that almost sounds like a challenge, coming from you.”

“Oh please, Oro. Like you could really sit there unruffled if I did decide to do exactly what you said? Do you have any idea how easy it would be? I wouldn’t even have to unzip my pants.” 

Tsunade rests her chin on his shoulder as she pulls her hand away from him, set upon a new target. Body armor prevents her from toying with her breasts, which usually adds to the rising excitement when she chooses such a course, but it’s unnecessary. The heat already gathering between her legs won’t take long to bloom into full rapture.

It seems a paltry thing to desire, but in lieu of any privacy or intimacy in so long, this playful, delicious little opportunity feels more exciting than she ever thought it might. Especially if she can get him to lose control. 

If she could hear those sounds he makes, even so softly as to not catch anyone’s attention but hers, nothing would compare. He has no idea just what that does to her… but she’d love for him to find out.

“Tsunade,” he warns, and a new smile, especially wicked, finds its way across her lips.

“Don’t Tsunade me. You know I’m right.” She presses the tips of her fingers right where she aches the most, exhaling hard, and Orochimaru goes rigid beside her. Every shift in scent and heat and movement is all too apparent to his keen senses and she knows it. “You could feel good too, here with me. Come on, Oro…”

His eyes close, far too focused on the spike of arousal in her scent, and the heat of her body pressed against his side. Despite all good sense, he can’t help but react. 

“You’re a menace, Hime.” Orochimaru’s growl is nearly inaudible, and the slow, slow shifting that eventually follows gives her reason to believe her words have borne fruit.

At that realization, she can’t keep from moving in to kiss him, from tasting the soft gasps of his breath. All she can do is breathe in deep, and give herself over to the too-quick ascent and plummeting freefall into bliss, even if it’s by her own hand. Their furtive, shared pleasures are found in near silence, accompanied by the sounds of the forest and the dying fire.

It’s enough, it’s all enough, so long as they have each other.

I’ll go with what I am pretty sure was one of my first anime OTPs, just to keep things simple... Chichiri/Tasuki from Fushigi Yuugi. I 1000% jump around. My go-to when I’m stuck is to jump forward, or sometimes work on the ending and backtrack until everything meets up again. 

8 - Do you listen to music while you write? If so, share a song that’s been inspiring you lately.

Music is perhaps one of the most important parts of my process - at least when conceptualizing fics or specific scenes. Sometimes the entire idea arrives because of a song. I do have playlists for specific characters, as well as ships and even fics. However, when it’s time to write, I sometimes have to revert to instrumentals or music that my brain won’t fixate on because my ADHD brain is so easily distracted.

But inspirational songs of the moment, hmm... I can’t pick just one so, here you go:

No place feels quite so close to the heavens as their bed, and never closer than the cherished moments when he’s embraced by the two that hold his heart. Two who cross like night and day, like sun and moon, rarely in the same place at once, but when they are, the sky is filled with beauty. 

And Dan, like Icarus, must find a way to meet them both in the vastness of that great expanse.

Of course, it helps quite a lot when they meet him there in that liminal space instead, in a crash of hot skin and muscled flesh, where Dan’s vision is curtained in alternating haloes of black and gold. It’s there that his conscious thoughts are reduced to the sounds of breathy laughter in his ear, to breathe in vanilla sweetness or be snatched away to drown in sharply fanged kisses. 

Two mouths, two tongues, two pairs of hands -  the combination wreaks havoc on his wits and his resolve, and he’s helpless to stop them. Especially when they are the ones who conspired to make this moment happen because he is the one who has been away this time.

Dan can merely hang on for dear life, and learn to fly.

“Do you have any idea how much we’ve missed you?” Tsunade sighs against his cheek, her words humid and soft, falling like dark honey from her lips.

He can’t answer, half-dazed by the onslaught of their attentions. And who wouldn’t be, held as he is, with both his wrists pinned back in her iron grip, stronger than any binding could ever hope to be. 

Worshipful hands, pale and graceful, glide across the sinews and planes of his torso, as Orochimaru leisurely straddles his hips. Their dark lover is a monochrome vision, dropping white-hot kisses in a firm line up his sternum. Each kiss feels like a singular brand marking his very soul, and it’s as if there is not a single, solitary inch of his body that has not become reacquainted with this sensation tonight.

“Such a measure is simply not quantifiable, Dan-bird. What matters is that we have you now,” Orochimaru says, his golden eyes fixing him with their resplendent glimmer, as if lit from within.

Those eyes don’t let go, they never let go, even as their bodies become one. They share one breath, one pulse, and when lost in passion, their chakra melds, as if it was always meant to be joined. The feeling is so intense that Dan sometimes wonders if he has accidentally left his body and truly entered Orochimaru’s spiritual landscape. It never happens, but theirs is a curious affinity, it always has been.

Tsunade joins them in sweet pleasure, ever generous, ever demanding, and the joy of fulfillment is complete. As Dan lies between them, with the sweat of their lovemaking still drying on his skin, something in the space feels hallowed, sacred.

As if divinity is truly found wherever the three are one.

“What the hell were you thinking, Hime!?” 

She can hear him before she can see him, though bright, ice-pick sharpness shears through her skull. The sound of a scuffle erupts in front of the medical tent, bringing along with it portents of nothing good. An emotional storm, though not her own.

“Orochimaru-sama, you can’t just barge in--there are patients recovering--”

“Get out of my way, you swine! I need to see her--”

The Chunin medic barring the entry way is no match for his anger, and the snake Sannin enters the tent in seconds, surrounded by a veritable maelstrom of corrosive chakra, his killing intent not even thinly veiled. His eyes narrow as he scans the area using more senses than mere sight, locking right on to the cot where his teammate rests with a bloodied bandage wound about her head, and the temperature of the air seems to drop. To Orochimaru, the sight of Tsunade so injured is something of pure cognitive dissonance - utterly past comprehension! - and he sweeps down the aisle of makeshift beds in several rapid strides, nearly at the speed of a shunshin.

“Orochimaru-sama, please - the other patients!”

“Oro... stop. I’m okay,” Tsunade opens her eyes and tries to sit up, but a wave of dizziness sets in and he is kneeling at her side in an instant, catching her before she can fall back against the cot.

“Why haven’t these incompetents healed you yet?” he hisses, panicked, and half ready to call forth his own rudimentary healing skills if it might mean she is back at top condition. 

If only it wouldn’t cause her pain.

“I ordered them not to… there are too many critical cases.” she whispers. “I’m okay, just a mild concussion, I swear. In a few minutes I’ll be able to heal myself, just gimme a second to find my bearings--"

Her words are cut off in an instant as his arms chose around her, gentle but urgent, his breath a halting stutter between his ribs. 

All Orochimaru can see in his mind's eye is the moment when the melee closed around them on the field,  and a mass of fighting bodies separated their squad. The smoke and debris of battle erupted into pure chaos, and none of them were expecting the surprise attack from the west, where the Iwa forces used Earth Release to trap half of the Konoha forces beneath an avalanche of crushing boulders. Their princess was larger than life, using her incredible strength to burst and disperse half the falling mountainside, but she was also exhausted and outnumbered. Orochimaru was too far away to intervene, caught between enemies; when Tsunade’s chakra signature disappeared, his heart nearly stopped.

“I thought I’d lost you, Hime.” His words are a desperate whisper against her cheek, lips brushing impossibly soft skin, marred by scrapes and dirt. “You needed backup… you should have gotten out of there.”

“Oro, you would have tried something just as drastic--” Tsunade’s protest is stifled by a frenzied yet tender kiss.

Propriety can wait, and the fact that there are others watching does little to counter the wellspring of emotion bubbling free within him. It doesn’t matter that she is right either. Not so long as she’s safe in his arms.

“Then how about I promise this, Hime - no matter what happens, I’ll always come back to you.”

13. hardest character to write

Kakashi. If it’s for anything other than as a side character, or a baby/grumpy smartass kid version of himself, I have the hardest time with him. I know I’ve written him before, but it just doesn’t come easy or naturally to me, which is why I tend to refrain from writing him, unless I have good reason, or heavy inspiration.
