honestly i think one of my favorite things about pacific rim is still that GDT made sure the kaiju and jaegers looked, moved, and visually felt like they had the weight they realistically would have. their hulking mass and size makes their movements comparatively 'slow'. the metal plating and joints on the jaegers rattle, shake, and compress with force on every collision and movement and their mechanical parts operate rigidly like all massive machines do. kaiju muscle and blubber jiggles the way real fat and muscle does.

like. theyre such small things that couldve easily been overlooked or declared unimportant but it subtly adds SO much life to the world in the movie and makes something as ridiculously unrealistic as giant robots and aliens feel that much more rooted and real.

i was primarily on bird app at the time but did i tell anyone here that a while back i actually got so fed up with primagames' shitty legend of dragoon guidebook (and have a huge special interest) that i went and made my fucking own
