i think there are a lot of people who have a complete fundamental misunderstanding of master chief as a character entirely because of how halo became associated with toxic gamerbro misogynist chuds and i do not fault them for this at all because said toxic gamerbros will often pull him out of context to show only the parts they think are Cool but it does not stop me from wanting to start biting ankles whenever i see someone characterizing him as a purposefully standoffish chest-beating oo-rah soldier type
i am unashamed to admit i may have burst into tears twice tonight
honestly i think one of my favorite things about pacific rim is still that GDT made sure the kaiju and jaegers looked, moved, and visually felt like they had the weight they realistically would have. their hulking mass and size makes their movements comparatively 'slow'. the metal plating and joints on the jaegers rattle, shake, and compress with force on every collision and movement and their mechanical parts operate rigidly like all massive machines do. kaiju muscle and blubber jiggles the way real fat and muscle does.
like. theyre such small things that couldve easily been overlooked or declared unimportant but it subtly adds SO much life to the world in the movie and makes something as ridiculously unrealistic as giant robots and aliens feel that much more rooted and real.
