He drummed his fingers along his office desk, mildly annoyed the lawyer had given his work number out when it was just meant for her. The name was a slight surprise though.
“Sorry. I wasn’t judging. Shouldn’t you call the lawyer I pointed you to? There’s not much I can do from where I am.” He sighed softly.
Maybe she should have called ahead. Touched base. Let her friend know that she hadn’t gone and gotten herself killed when she’d dropped off the face of the Earth. But that was less fun than bursting through her door, toting a bag tied like a bindle around her mallet.
She’d tried her bat. The bindle slid off. The head of the mallet prevented that.
