Klaara / Kiira Storm is here, in Finland...

Other European countries its name have “Lucifer” or “Zeus”, but here in Finland “Klaara” (Claire, Clarissa, Chiara, original: Clara), when 12th August is name day of Klaara / Clara!

“Kiira”: Kira, Kyra, Kieran, original: Kûrush

“Kiira” is Finnish mythical bad being, too.

Länsimetro update, part 2 – from Niittykumpu to Matinkylä. The start of the Länsimetro operation is finally approaching – after several delays - and we can expect it happen in few weeks.

The first phase of the Länsimetro expands the route from Ruoholahti (in Helsinki) to Matinkylä in Espoo. The first part of this update described the first four stations on the Espoo side. The last two are Niittykumpu and Matinkylä. The special thing is they both are located in shopping malls: Niitty shopping mall (Niittykumpu) and Iso Omena (Matinkylä). The Matinkylä station is at the same time a rather big bus terminal.Pictures: the first five form Niittykumpu and the last five from Matinkylä.

Länsimetro (West Metro), Matinkylä and Iso Omena - Part I

Matinkylä is the end station of the Länsimetro first phase, the metro line connecting Helsinki and Espoo. The second phase is already under construction and it will extend the line to Kivenlahti.

The shopping mall Iso Omena is located above the Matinkylä metro station. It has been under construction couple of years. And big hopes are on the passengers going through the metro station. The metro line ought to open in August.

In June came a shock. Lansimetro announced the opening the line will be postponed till January. Ironically I was photographing Iso Omena and metro construction on that day the announcement came. It was very hard to believe that the Iso Omena and metro station will be ready in two months.

Still two day before opening of the new part on Iso Omena it was very difficult to believe that it will ready.
