Swarms don't require to make an attack roll, they just need to go through the character space to damage them thus their movement speed is key AND they are weak to splash and area damage, so it' is time for the alchemists, mages and sorcerers to shine in a low level campaign (or a fighter with an Alchemist's Fire).

Wolves are excellent animal companions, specially for their ability to knockdown enemies and make them prone (-2 to AC and -2 penalty to attack rolls) plus they can Aid their masters' attack (+1-4 to the first attack roll). They will give their masters a maximum of +6 bonus to attack rolls!!
