[TRAVEL WITH US] ✨Kabola Winery✨ What a great way to spend a day! The wine lovers tour at Kabola winery is all about passion for wine and Istria. The family tradition that started over a century ago with Momjan Muscat still radiates love for nature and wine growing. And we felt it on our tour. The amiable sommelier amazed us with a selection of three wonderfully fresh wines accompanied with Istrian delicacies, prosciutto, cheese, and Kabola olive oil. We tasted Kabola RE Brut, Kabola Secco, and Kabola Supremo - all great wines. We learned about Kabola history, organic production, and amphora maceration. Who loves a funky orange wine? How about a long-aged orange wine? This 2010 beauty from Roxanich Wines in Croatia’s Istria region is their current vintage! 70 days of skin contact. 6 years aging in large wooden vats. Unfiltered. This wine is a field blend of equal amounts of seven varietals: glera, Friulano, Verduzzo, Riesling Italico, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Gris. ———————————————— This wine is not for everyone! It is acidic, has a slightly bitter flavor, oxidative qualities, but is also exploding with fruit - dried apricot. I drank the whole bottle over the course of the evening including with pork ribs and veal stew. The wine is great with food and opened up beautifully over time. A truly fantastic orange wine. ————————————————- The name of this wine is Ines U Bijelom, which in Croatian means “Ines in White.” The wine is a tribute to the winemaker’s wife Ines. Our recently-arrived Croatian wine shipment has many new producers. One of them is Meneghetti Winery in the gorgeous region of Istria. We have two wines from them on our site - one white, one red - and also got samples of white a few others. Last night we tried one of these samples at dinner at Bull Valley Roadhouse in Port Costa. This 2018 Malvasija was a stunner and we’ll look forward to having it in future shipments. This wine had great texture and color and was very aromatic - citrus, apple, stone fruit and a hint of floral. On the palate, a delightfully crisp, balanced, mineral-driven wine. This particular Malvasija comes not from Istria but from farther south closer to Dubrovnik. We think this varietal produces a more powerful white wine than Austrian Malvasija and we paired the wine with salmon and a 13-ounce ribeye.
