Read a Stemmick fic where Stack asked Remmick to teach him Gaelic, and now I can't stop thinking about it.
I love the thought of Stack secretly learning more about Irish history to make Remmick feel more connected. But then I remembered that Remmick can read their minds and I thought: guess it won't be a secret, then.
So Stack just outright asks Remmick to teach him Gaelic. Not that Remmick will be his only learning source. But Stack wants to be able to speak the same dialect that Remmick does. And Stack is so dedicated, that he makes it a point to speak to Remmick in Gaelic as much as possible.
Stack would also ask for recipes Remmick's family made when he was growing up. He's no cook, but damn it, he's gonna try. And while it's not the same, Remmick appreciates it. It's been so long he's forgotten the taste, himself. But after having the food he hadn't tasted in decades, it bringss back memories he didn't know he'd lost.
And of course, asking about his past would lead Remmick to unintentionally go on about his life in Ireland, before he had to leave. He would rant about anything, everything he could remember while Stack cooked away. Or get lost in the history of a slang word during one of their study sessions.
Oh, and the dancing. I feel like Stack would be most disappointed he can't surprise Remmick with his new skill of Irish jig. But this is just another way to learn more about Remmick and his culture. And to spend more time with him. It's a win, overall.
It's hard for Stack to pick up in the beginning. But he doesn't give up. They captivate the coven with their performances as the others circle around them.
Stack isn't musically inclined, but Remmick won't pass up the opportunity to watch Stack get frustrated when trying to play the banjo and sing simultaneously.
And it's after years of this - decades - that Remmick will finally come to understand: the past is gone. But he can pass on what he knows to others. Sharing the best part of himself with as many people as he can. Because even though he can't see his people again, he won't let that stop him from remembering them.
And gaining other people's cultures as he turns them, will just make for an even greater community. Giving and taking; an endless cycle of sharing and connection. Ensuring that no one will have to endure the same loneliness that he had.
