Well there was a time that I realized no one was really on my blog, so dat meant I could just post whatever I wanted

People started following me anyways which is a cool plus, (love u guys)

But the only advice I can give is It's your blog, post whatever u want, who's gonna stop you? Do what u want!

Who cares if no one sees it, long as yer having fun, developing yer characters and stuff, that's what matters :) post whatever you want however u want, there aren't rules to this :)

Why jatp hasn’t been renewed... yet

Looks like Netflix renewed another non-jatp show and now everyone is (understandably) mad again. I initially wrote this as a response to another post but I’m making it its own post since Netflix has given fans another reason to be frustrated, and will probably give us a few more in the coming months. I don’t work in tv production but a lot of my friends do (some at Netflix specifically) and shows are renewed/cancelled based on a LOT of different factors. This is long, so it’s all under the cut, but the tl;dr is that the renewal equation for a show filmed in Canada with minors during a pandemic is complex.

The straightforward factors are how expensive the show is to produce and how much revenue it can generate for the studio/network/streaming service. Money is always the most important thing- passionate fans will never outweigh high production costs.

Where it gets tricky (and what I personally believe is causing the delay in renewing jatp) are the nebulous factors. Sometimes something as random and unpredictable as a studio/service/network head deciding they should spend their money on a different kind of content can be enough to prevent a successful show from being renewed.

And that’s just in normal times. Covid + minors means there are a host of additional pieces that need to align to get the show renewed. There are all kinds of special rules when dealing with minors in general- I’m not sure if Covid has made these worse than usual but I’m guessing they have and a lot of additional protections have to be put in place when kids are on set. Also the show is filmed in Canada with a primarily US-based cast. Canada is actually taking covid seriously and they are not letting just anybody in, even if you have a valid work visa. There’s a National Interest Exemption that the actors/crew would probably qualify for, but it’s not a guarantee. NIE has to be approved by a handful of people in the Canadian government, and those people could easily decide a tv show for a US company isn’t in the national interest during a pandemic. If they could relocate and shoot somewhere in the US, this problem largely goes away, but moving production isn’t a simple process and might not be an option.

And finally, the actors are growing up. A year off for an actor in his 30s isn’t a big deal- he will most likely look the same over two or three years. But a kid? They change a lot, and quickly. Even the older boys look noticeably different now than they do on the show, but Madison, Jadah, Sacha and Sonny? A lot can happen in eighteen months at their ages. It might not be feasible to continue the show if they’re unable to resume filming soon.

So most likely all of these ducks (cost, covid, filming location, timing, etc.) have to be in a row before Netflix will be able to confirm a second season. Engaging on social media is great for showing continued interest in the show, but commenting “renew jatp” on every Instagram post will ultimately not outweigh covid restrictions or Netflix’s bottom line.

I don’t mean to be a downer! This is not intended to imply I don’t think jatp will be renewed- I definitely think it could be! Renewal is a real possibility!! This is just laying out some of the reasons why I think that decision is taking so long to make, and why it might drag on for a bit longer. Hang in there, pals- just keep doing what this fandom is good at and meme through the pain. And tell your friends!
