“Are you well?” Sylvanas asked quietly, leaning over the back of her chair.

Jaina relaxed, putting her hand over the one on her shoulder and smiling. “I am now,” she said.

Her smile widened at the upward twitch of long ears. “What about you? Are the rangers behaving themselves?”

“Marginally, and I am fine. What did the Lady of the House want?”

“Just a little reassurance before the battle tomorrow.”

Whether Sylvanas believed that or not, she did not press. Instead, her attention was taken by a sudden change in the music and a swell of cheering towards the end of the hall that wasn’t cluttered by the tables or seating.

Jaina perked up too. If she heard right, there was about to be a more organised dance, no disparate little pockets here and there, but a large space cleared for those brave enough to dance in front of watching eyes.

Eager to leave the pall of her conversation with Lucille behind, she rose from her chair and grabbed Sylvanas by the wrists. “Dance with me.”

Sylvanas looked at her with brows and ears raised. “Pardon?”
