the best thing a fictional man can be is having the worst time of his life
whines pitifully . flops on the ground . bursts into flames
yesterday? blorbo stuff. today? blorbo stuff. tomorrow? you'll never guess
Love love love characters that present themselves as emotionally open social butterflies but the more you see of them the more obvious it is that they’re the most closed off fuckers in the story. Sure, they want to help you with your personal problems and messy emotions, but if you turn that shit back on them, they’ll shut down or deflect every time. Why are you sticking your nose in their business anyway? It’s not like it matters. They’re not a person, they’re just a role being played. They’re the guy who fixes things and saves people. Please ignore the man behind the mask, he’s fine. Everything’s fine.

In theory, maybe I get the “we’re all just playing with barbies, they’re fictional characters, no interpretation is incorrect because it’s an interpretation” argument. But actually no, not all takes are equally valid. Framing something as an interpretation doesn’t mean it inherently has merit. Some takes are completely incorrect and betray a fundamental misunderstanding of the source material. They just aren’t a reason to harass people or send death threats
He was as tall as he was tall, and his eyes were the color they were. To describe his hair one would say that he had some. His face had all the features you'd expect, and none of the ones you wouldn't. "There he is," people would often say of him, but only when he was there. And they were right.

Verso-Expedition 33
Well, now its Verso's turn... He exists in something that i would call a fragmented condition, between what is real and what should never have existed, he does not feel like a complete human being, but neither is he a simple creation on the canvas, he is the essence of a Verso that is no longer there, carrying memories that do not fully belong to him, and feeling a grief that he cannot resolve.
As far as we could see, for him the life inside the canvas does not have the same value as the "original" life. Not cuz its inhabitants do not breathe, feel or suffer, but cuz they are born from a brush, from an impulse or denial, a place where existence can be repeated, corrected, erased or remade without limit, life loses that fragility that makes it meaningful, this is where a question that i have questioned myself for years arises again:
What value is life if you can create and destroy it at will?
Verso understood that when life can be painted infinitely, death stops hurting, and when that happens there is no change and nothing transforms.
The Dessendre family lost reality by clinging to an artificial miracle, a world that allowed them to avoid grief while their real life was extinguished. And Verso, who only existed thanks to that evasion, sees the canvas as a symbolic root of the breakup of his family, a world that only exists cuz his family could not let go of the loss of their son, they preferred to create copies, illusions and lives that could be corrected instead of facing the irreparable.
From that perspective, destroying the canvas is not an act of hate, but rather liberation, it's not genocide in his mind, it's correction.
For him, saving the family means eliminating the world that was born of pain and perpetuated its ruin.
His identity is in a paradox, he is not the original verse, but he carries the love that he had for his sister, his sacrifice, with his desperation to save others, and from that distorted love, he thinks that erasing the canvas is the last act that the true verse would have been willing to do if he had had the power to prevent his family from being destroyed.
In the end i suppose that Verso represents an uncomfortable truth, life makes sense when its end is real, that grief only heals when loss is accepted and that in a world without limits, without death, without consequences it does not offer hope, only stagnation.
Sometimes destroying an illusion is the only way to recover what is left of reality....
it's good enrichment for The Character(s) when one of their friends gets possessed and they have to find some way to bring them back. great friendgroup bonding activity. especially if they have to do some exorcism bullshit and it's traumatizing for everyone involved and there's collapsing and sobbing afterward. great thing for The Character(s) to do. highly recommend.
big fan of when characters meet another version of themselves and their first instinct is to literally physically kill their doppelganger with their own two hands. which could mean absolutely nothing.
“𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞.”
And this is my Chapter 8 Tarot card — I gave it a slight stylized treatment. You could think of it as Verso serving as the sword of the Mask Keeper, while Visage acts as Verso’s own inverted cross — representing sacrifice, submission, and descent.
