Sometimes I'm haunted by the fact that a girl I was friends with had to explain to her teacher (at her previous school) why doing a school production on The Color Purple was a terrible idea. Like a whole ass adult had to be explained why a group of (mostly) white people should not do that. (Like my friend was one of, like, 3 black students in the entire school type situation)
She also told me of how they did West Side and no one from the Latino club auditioned because they knew they would not get a major role and would just be used as props.
when i finally got orpheus to sing i sat in the main hall listening to him for probably 15 real-world minutes so he repeated it a bunch of times bc i love him. also when he first got to ‘calm’ i gasped out loud and put my hand over my mouth like a swooning heroine in a period piece bc i thought it was going to sync up with eurydice’s bit where she also says ‘calm’ by itself as just one line but i don’t think it actually does. also also when he hits that note on ‘drowning’ i go insannnnnne his voice is so distinctive and incredible like hearing him talk i’ll admit i was a little like :/// idk about this one guys but hooooly shit. i love him.
