you know what i just realized

i'm used to think that i know sims community well, but come to think of it, my world is only a small part of the community. my beautiful feed is full of aliens, messy teens, ts2 to ts4 characters, gay spellcasters and femboys wearing dresses, and i'm so used to the thought that it's just how the sims community is.

and you know what, i'm very comfortable here, where i belong, among simmers who fill my feed with aliens, messy teens, ts2 to ts4 characters, gay spellcasters and femboys wearing dresses. i'm grateful for all of you. you make my sims community an exciting place.

Thought I was watching a spooky movie about gorgeous queer female vampires with traumatic backstories murder shitty men and feed and take over the world as they should & instead, it ended up being about… complicated family dynamics & how being a man doesn’t automatically make you a shitty person??????? I think????

Idrk but it’s NOT WHAT I WATCH VAMPIRE MOVIES FOR. That ending was such a bummer, it literally started out like it was about how shitty it was to be a woman sometimes & the fear & all the complexities that come along with that & somehow, it still ended up being about men wtf.

Just came across an interesting post on reddit. The OP read that captains were bad and unwanted, thought mariners were gay fencers and didn't want to play that, and wanted to play something that had spells but then didn't want to play a caster bc they're all squishy...😭??

My favourite example of a “bad” book that has beautiful writing but just sucks as a story is Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. The characters are awful, even the supposed “good” ones you’re supposed to be rooting for, the framing structure feels completely unnecessary and convoluted, making it hard to follow events, and I still don’t know what the hell Cathy and Heathcliff saw in each other—which goes back to the whole problem with the framing narrative because we’re never in their heads and see their supposed deep connection, so it makes their relationship and the negative impacts it has on the supporting cast look like pointlessly cruel melodrama, not the soul-shattering star-crossed love that the book purports them to have.

I know that this will be a controversial opinion because WH is a classic, and for good reason: it’s a succinct exploration on how the cycle of abuse gets continuously perpetuated, and again the writing is beautiful (the Brontë sisters knew their way around prose). But I can’t in good faith say it’s a good story when there’s so much lacking.
