I just came back from a short vacation and while there, took the opportunity to draw on my tablet for the first time. Here are a few sketches I made thus far:
I talked about this a little on Twitter, but I wanted more space to get my thoughts out, so here we go.
First of all I wanna preface this by saying I don't want ANYTHING taken from the Hells, nor do I think anything WILL be taken from them. Otohan is extremely personal and Matt made SURE of it. Ira is extremely personal based on repeated encounters with him and the fact that he manipulated Birdie and Ollie into not leaving- regardless of whether the Hells focused on that or not because of their frustration with them, it's true. Ira modified their memories so they wouldn't try to get back to Fearne and leave him bereft of help. And they hate Ira anyway so it's personal on the grounds that Ira sucks as far as they're concerned.
But CR has started to let Exandria breathe a lot more to become an actual living thing where consequences ripple and not everything can be or has to be solved by the main heroes. There's only a TEN YEAR gap between M9 and BH, which is very little time in the grand scheme of things. They aren't high end political figures who have access to deep lore that only Matt can have like VM. They're still just people.
And we KNOW we're going to see them again in some capacity.
VM are retired from adventuring. They have KIDS. Percy is in his fifties and very human. They have responsibilities. They can't just drop everything and go save the world. There's no danger of Keyleth swooping in and nuking Otohan- she and the rest of VM are going to understand that this is personal for the Hells and recognize that spark that they had when they were younger and want THEM to succeed. This whole thing in Whitestone isn't going to be the Hells offloading their issues to VM to deal with- it's going to be getting Laudna back and getting word out so that every band of heroes across campaigns can keep their ears to the ground.
And the Nein have connections to VM through Viliya and Allura. There's no way in ten years that Allura hasn't heard about what happened with Trent or that Caleb and Beau are trying to weed out corruption in the Assembly- which yeah, that's gonna take longer than ten years, by the by. Trent got careless and that's the only reason he got caught. Ludinus has been doing this for centuries. He's not gonna be ousted easily.
The Assembly is personal to the Nein (and they have access to people who know a lot about Dunamancy, which is ALSO personal) and it's in their backyard. The Hells can't have their fingers in every pie- they need to focus on Otohan and Ira and what's happening on the Apogee Solstice, which I imagine is going to be a HUGE gamechanger in general for all of Exandria.
CR has established a habit of doing "mini-campaigns." I don't think it's absolutely far-fetched that once things start to spread and events start to have consequences that extend beyond Marquet that we won't have at least ONE mini campaign of the Nein dealing with Assembly bullshit while the Hells are wrangling Otohan and Ira and whatever else they have going on.

Was Katara emotional after she delivered Lin and Su? Was toph emotional after she heard Lin and Su cry for the first time?
Hi Anon, thanks for your ask, and your patience! Happy to chat about my favorite Beifong ladies and bestie Katara haha! The world needs more conversations about them lmao.
I think that Katara always gets emotional delivering babies, especially after having her own. But with Toph, I would imagine she finds herself even more emotional primarily because this is her best friend that's becoming a mother. She's helped her along the way, helped her get the nursery ready, answer questions, and just do some chores around the house that become difficult when you got a belly in the way. Katara's there for Toph through it all, and she's very grateful for it.
So fast forward to when Lin and Su are born, it's an amazing feeling for Katara to see her friend so happy and in love with her kids after giving birth. I can imagine that for both babies, Toph wasn't afraid to express her nervousness once or twice to Katara. So to see that fear go away just a little bit when she holds her girls for the first time, it's everything to the waterbender.
I always picture Toph being emotional when she gives birth to her babies. There's a lot of buildup and anticipation for them to arrive, so when they're finally here, she's first off, relieved that they're born healthy. Then she's emotional because she's a mama now. It's something she never planned on being, but now that she's holding her baby girl(s), she wouldn't change a thing.
She's also probably feeling a mix of emotions just because of the labor process too, and depending on the situation, I can see her cracking a joke as she has tears in her eyes that she's thankful that the labor is over with haha!
Every now and then I like to think a bit of a hurt/comfort situation for Lin or Su's birth for ~added drama~, and so there are some headcanons I imagine where it takes a few minutes before Lin or Su cry out for the first time (usually I HC this for Su's birth lol).
For some reason, the baby isn't crying after she's born and Toph doesn't know why, and Katara isn't saying anything, and that's just adding to Toph's stress and nerves. Something is wrong, and she doesn't know what, and so that makes her think of every worst case scenario and she just doesn't know what to do or feel until finally, finally, she hears the sweetest sound in the world and her baby cries for the first time.
When the baby is put into her arms, the tears begin to stream down her face, because her baby is safe in her arms now, and everything is okay in the world. Nothing compares to it, and Toph can't help but cry tears of relief and joy in that moment.
Okay! I think that's enough sap from me :')
Thank you again for the ask, Anon! So sorry for the delay, my summer has been a little ~busy~, but I won't bore you with the details, I'll just put an effort to answer these hopefully once or twice a day lol. Feel free to stop by again soon, and I hope you have a great day!

Send me asks about ATLA, or anything, really! :D
