I love If I Could Tell Her.
From Evan’s point of view, it’s his way to communicate how he feels about Zoe and disguise it as hidden brotherly affection, instead of hidden romantic feelings. He says “I love you” under the pretense that it’s from Connor. She’s getting the message that her brother loved her, while Evan finally gets to breathe out all of the things he keeps thinking about her.
From Zoe’s point of view, she’s finally getting a piece of her brother. She’s... she’s finding reasons to sing his requiem. I feel so unified with Zoe, because if it were me...I know my sister loves me, but if I didn’t...and if I loved her as much as I do and hid it as much as Zoe must have...hearing those things is like finally falling asleep after tossing and turning for hours. The relief - that he didn’t hate her, like she always thought, that the protective walls she built and the mask she put on to make it seem like she couldn’t stand him just so that he wouldn’t see how much she cared about him - all of that wasn’t real, and she never really needed it.
And I know the song is built on lies, but I wish it weren’t. I wish... I wish I could hug Zoe and say “I know, I know it seems like he hated you that whole time, and because of that you had to hate him too, but you didn’t, and he didn’t, and I know you might feel like you just wasted all of your time with him, but isn’t it so much better now that you know?”
Gonna be a horrible thing to say but I honestly hopes my cousin and her boyfriend break up.
I have 2 reasons, one better than the other.
1. They are horrible together and the relationship is all around bad.
2. I want the drama.
