“Last time you saw me, you wanted me to come to Winterfell. Took the long road, but...”
OK, ANALYSIS OF THIS THANKS.
This is Gendry referencing a conversation from years ago, bringing up their long and complex history, trying to open up again to this girl who was his best friend. It’s long been acknowledged that Arya wanting Gendry to come to Winterfell, and saying “I can be your family”, was a declaration of love on her behalf. She was in love with him.
Sure, Gendry could literally be just reminding her he eventually realised Winterfell was the right place for him to be - just like how much as Arya was in love with Gendry in Season 3, she did quite literally want him to come with her.
But equally, when you consider the heart eyes Gendry has been giving Arya throughout 801 and 802, and how he’s literally looking at her like she’s the moon when she leans down to kiss him... I personally think you can read this on the same metaphorical level.
Gendry saying to Arya that he took the long road to get here, but got here in the end, isn’t just him saying about how he’s physically in Winterfell.
He’s talking about how it took him a long time to realise she was in love with him, because Gendry’s game (I love him, but god) is extremely terrible; and it took longer still for him to realise he was in love with her. It’s taken a long time for him to work everything out, but saying that to Arya is Gendry saying - “I’m here now, and I love you. And I’m sorry it took so long for me to realise this.”
