Can we just appreciate the cinematic lighting and overall symbolism that Heated Rivalry has?

At the beginning, they are fucking with lights off, it's dark, the curtains closed, only saying each other's last names. It sets a mood that shows how anxious they both are, how ashamed? they are for doing what they're doing. It keeps them hidden, away from prying eyes.

Both saying that what they're doing is a bad idea, only fucking and leaving. They're scared to be seen, to be heard, to have a connection past their hockey personas.

Then, we look at episode six. They're existing in the light, wide, open windows surrounding them everywhere they go. The one time Shane starts getting anxious again and goes to draw the blinds, Ilya stops him. It's like a reassurance, what we're doing is okay, we can be seen here, we can be us.

And they're using their first names! They're letting each other in, having deeper moments, softer conversations.

Ilya opening up about his mama, them finally saying I love you, in both of their languages.

Even when they get caught, the light continues to surround them, to show that they're visible and they're not dying, they're okay.

It's not perfect, but for right now, they're safe, they're okay, and they're together.
