Ciao!! I was wondering if you could tell me the difference between ‘programma’ and ‘orario’ when taking about schedules? Grazie🤍
Ciao! These two words have a very slight different acception:
programma = plan, schedule, programme. It’s the list of programmes that will be shown/done in a specific period of time (e.g. TV programmes) or for a specific occasion (e.g. events in your town, celebrations). As a matter of fact, it is also the precise enunciation of what you want/plan to do and get (and also how: e.g work programme). (It lists also times, as for TV programmes, but it’s generally more about things you have to do, want to see, etc...)
orario = timetable, time schedule. Generally, the informative table with the precise times of execution of a specific service (e.g. trains), but also, the distribution of different operations in a time span, the expected amount of time needed to do a specific job or something in general (e.g. school lessons). (When you mostly care about the time, or you need to focus or search for the time in which something starts/ends, leaves/arrives, opens/closes, e.g. lessons, trains, shops...).
Here a few examples:
L’orario dei treni è appeso in stazione = Trains’ timetable is hanging at the station L’orario delle lezioni non è ancora definitivo = Lessons’ timetable is still not permanent Il programma della nostra gita è cambiato = Our trip’s schedule has changed La lezione in programma alle 11 è stata posticipata = The lesson scheduled for 11 a.m. has been postponed.
Basically it's the same thing, it only changes what you focus on. Hope it helps. Just let me know if something is not clear!
