So I saw Conclave in theaters last night (re-released here in Italy 'cause the pope... y'know) and halfway through I was already "this movie is great and is pushing all the right buttons", then we got to the ending and I got teary eyed.

As a nonbinary person I was already almost subconsciously identifying with cardinal Benitez, the small fry between large and powerful manly men who only think about power.

Then the scene at the end of the movie happened. Bear in mind that I was raised in a catholic home and culture.

"If He made me this way I don't want to change that" yes... yes exactly! I'm alright as I am. I don't need surgery to be who I already know I am!

There was a shot of Vincent and his very soft hands, similar to my afab hands. He's like a painting they explained in sunday school, he's like God, that has both the qualities of a father and a mother, and is together man and woman. The perfect union.

Old people in the theater were whispering: "Ha, he's a woman, he's a woman" but I was not paying attention to them.

It was already a great movie but the twist elevated it to a personal level, and I'm an atheist. I felt seen, I felt understood. Great watch.
