"Ohhhh! Helena! Lovely to see you, ma'am!" You pick your face up off the smooth asphalt of your driveway.
She's such a nice woman; each loop, you get either a cute greeting or sweet text from her. If you ask, she'd work on baking something for you. It wouldn't be worth it in this heat though. Gas ovens just make shit worse, and she's already told you her AC units are older than you are. Best not stress them too much
Helena stares down at you for a few beats before she opens her mouth again to speak, "Don't you have work today, dear?"
Surely. Surely it'll work this time.
Instead of doing something useful, you get up onto your knee and press a kiss to the palm of her hand that she intended to use for helping you.
What can you say? It's just so much fun to see how she reacts. She's a great doll, a great friend. And! Her kids and grandkids won't ever arrive in time! They live too far away.
Her hand tenses for a brief moment beneath the touch, and a little giggle flutters out of her throat.
"...Don't you have work? Ember?" She reiterates. You feel the bones in her hands twitch beneath her winkled skin.
All you give her is a wink before picking up the skateboard and running off towards the nearby town trail. It'll take a while to get to Reese's house. An hour of walking. You'll workshop the skateboarding thing as you go.
That was totally a success.
Still, you need something else to occupy yourself in the meantime. At least the trail is fun.
