i rewatched new moon last night and i can’t stop thinking about how if edward stayed away bella and jake would have gone on a summer road trip adventure to canada on their motorcycles, living out of their backpacks, riding for miles and miles in the day and sleeping under the stars in the vancouver forests by night and it’s the exact change of scenery that bella needs to push her into a new frame of mind and to see how big and endless and full of possibility the world is with jake and when they got back to forks in the fall for jake’s senior year, they are in love and after graduation they both decide to get their mechanics license and open up a repair shop just on the edge of town and they spend their days underneath cars and their nights watching the game with charlie, billy, and sue cuddled up on the couch and they get married on the beach and spend summer vacations in jacksonville surfing and adventuring and they rock climb and cliff jump and go hiking every weekend and they still ride their bikes together everywhere and they have like three kids who they take camping on march breaks and they’re the kind of annoying adventure family that goes snowboarding as a group

The Name of the Wind is one of my favorite books, and a big reason is that it’s so rewarding on re-read. Every time I read it, I notice something I’d always missed before. Usually it’s a bit of subtle foreshadowing or a hint at the mysteries of the Chandrian, but the latest one is a bit different:

He shrugged. “Knacks don’t go away so easily as that. When I was growing up in Staup, I knew a young man with a knack. Uncommonly good with plants.” Abenthy’s grin was gone as he looked off at something I couldn’t see. “His tomatoes would be red while everyone else’s vines were still climbing. His squash were bigger and sweeter, his grapes didn’t hardly have to be bottled before they started being wine.” He trailed off, his eyes far away.
