In Loving Memory - James Sunderland
A/N: Short oneshot that I wrote months ago. I finally have the motivation to finish it.
Available on Wattpad // AO3
Warnings: Spoilers from Silent Hill 2
The small group of people made their last goodbyes as the roaring thunder scared them off, leaving only two people.
You and James were the only two people left at Mary's funeral.
The relationship between you and Mary was very close. The two of you were like siblings. You remember the day she told you about James. Although you didn't know much about James, you could tell what Mary told you about him. Every time she mentioned James, a huge grin would appear on her face. To you he sounded like he was a gentleman towards her; and that's all that mattered to you. As long as he treated her right.
James finally walked towards Mary's coffin with a bouquet of her favorite flowers and lays them on top of her coffin. He returned to his original spot. His head bowing slightly downward.
"I'm sorry about Mary." Your voice tore James' tearful eyes away from Mary's coffin. Tears filled his eyes.
"At least she's in a better place." He mutters. His eyes go back to the coffin, wiping his eyes.
There was silence for a moment. You glanced over your shoulder to see James failing to keep his self from breaking down into tears. You didn't want the dreadful silence to keep going.
"You never told me where you went." You finally broke the silence. "The last time we’ve spoke to each other was a couple of weeks ago." James sighs. He wipes his eyes once more. "I'm sorry for leaving without notice. There were some things I had to take care of in Silent Hill." He turns his head to you. "Can I be honest with you?"
He pauses for a moment. "Ever since I came back from Silent Hill, it feels like a weight has lifted off of my shoulders. It feels like I can finally rest again. I can sleep without any worries about what will happen the next day."
He watches you for a reaction, but nothing came out of you. You didn’t know how to respond to his confession appropriately.
"I'm sorry if it sounds cruel. I didn’t mean for it to sound that way.”
"I didn’t sound bad.” You shook your head. "I'll never fully understand what you've been through, but it sounds like you've been through a lot."
He nods. "I dreaded every time I went to visit her. It seemed like she hated me more when I visited."
"I'm sorry to hear that." You shove your hands into your pockets. “Things are going to get better now, you know?”
He nods in agreement. His hand reaches into his pocket to retrieve a folded piece of paper. "This is what I received in the mail after she passed." He hands you the slightly crumpled paper.
“This letter was the reason why I went to Silent Hill.”
You unfold the paper and skim through the long depressing letter that talked about Mary’s experience being in her final years. Penitence was the only word you could describe the letter. You felt awful for not being there as much for Mary as she was fighting for her life.
You fold the letter and walk up to the coffin and lay the letter on top. “Thank you for being there for me, even though I wasn’t there for you these past couple of years.” You whisper and return to your original spot.
The crackling of thunder roared once more as light drops of rain began to hit the tent that stood above the two of you and Mary.
I’ll never forget how happy you made me.

i quickly redrew one of my old oc’s, left is from August 7th 2015 and right is June 4th 2017
I'm in my ~writers block + no interest in writing~ phase.
the reasoning for it in game is a little eh but i'm definitely So glad greg chun was back playing date in ni like i feel the character could so easily not work if they hadn't got the right guy for the job but he's sooo good
